Busy Day At The Field - First Ejection Ever!!

12-13 year old girls fastpitch softball.  Doubleheader today in 100+ heat so players are not thinking before they do.  First game, runner on 2nd - ball hit to outfield.  Runner stops at third but decided to go home on an errant throw.  Ball makes it to the catcher with plenty of time.  Runner crosses his arms, lowers the shoulder, and crashes the catcher extremely hard - almost looked like a football tackle.  "Dead ball, runner is out!"  "YOU, OUT OF THE GAME    (with EJ mechanic - turn at point)".  Then I direct runners to return to previous base prior to the collision.  I find out later that it was the coaches kid but he didn't say word one to me about it.  Instead, he dresses down his daughter; apparently, she had never done this before.  Tells me later, "wait until her mom gets here, she thinks she is in trouble now..." .  2 innings later, I end up providing medical aid to his catcher (dehydration, trouble breathing).  It was one of those games where I got to show I was willing to toss if necessary but that the safety of players was first and foremost for me.  2nd game goes without a hitch but the kids looked sluggish.

 

Needless to say, while there may have been a little chippiness here and there during the beginning of the first game (not too bad).  After the EJ, everyone was on their very best behavior - parents included.

 

I know it's not a very dramatic EJ since there was no arguing, but since it's my very first one, I thought I would share it with the class.
