ya we bought the McGregor gear for my son last year, didn't want to spend a lot of money, was only $69.99 for the whole set (protector, leg guards, mask etc). I figure now that I know he's going to stick with it we'll get him better gear, as it is now, he uses my backup gear most of the time. We just got his Champion hard shell protector with the bi-cep protectors, and we got him the All star low profile grey leg guards which he likes because he doesn't have actual plate pants. I agree the McGregor protector looks unsafe to me, and I prefer he not use it at all, but it was a nice starter set, and he was only working 9U and 10U games last year. Now that he's stepped up to the older age groups he much prefers the IX3 protector and the All-Star leg guards I gave him. I have the West platinum, I like the Champion P220 better. (I don't like that the Wilson doesn't offer bicep protectors or the lower extension) We also got him the low profile Wilson titanium mask and he has used it about as much as he uses my Shock, and I think he likes the mask better. I tend to prefer the Shock, as I feel like I see better than I do with the standard mask. I do like the Pro 9 light weight mask though, much cheaper and almost as nice as the Wilson model we got for him.

You (I think) had some quote from John Wayne discussing intelligence, or the lack thereof. When you typed the quote, you had several (three or four, I think) grammar errors.

Hello all, I'm thinking of buying this CP as a backup or to switch it off with the main protector that I have yet to buy. I am 5'8 175, which length would be good for me in this CP? Thanks in advance! :D

I would probably say a 13" or 15" would work fine for you. It all depends on how long you want it to be.

Thanks! I was thinking of going with a 15 but would it get in the way at all? Being im not so tall.

What size are you? I'm 5-11, 220 and wear a 15 ....Douglas, but I also have the Champion in 15 ....it sits about an inch above my bellybutton, but covers my ribs very comfrotably....both of them do.....

I just orderd a 15" Douglas and I am also 5'8". I should have it in a week so I will let you know how it fits when I get it..

But keep in mind, all bodies are not created equal. I would suggest putting on your plate pants with your belt on and measuring from the bottom of your neck to the top of your belt. I measure a 17" so If I tighten the 15" douglas up correctly I should have 2-3 inches to spare.

I'm confused. Why would you buy a back-up protector before you buy the main protector? The back-up is a nice to have extra in the trunk of your car, but you can get by with one good protector. Buy that one first.

Thank you guys for the replies! I ordered the Champion CP last night '15, just hoping it's not too long for my 5'8 frame. I received a call today from Sport about equipment telling me it would be on backorder due to such high demand of the Champion CP P210 model. My main protector will be either a Wilson Charcoal or Platinum, but figured it would be wise to have a spare or backup CP, which will be the Champion P210.

That thing is going to be at your waist. I'm 6'1" and wear a 14" Douglas and have worn the Platinum and Gold in the past, which are both about 13". (The Gold might even be a bit shorter)

I agree since your order is on back order you might try and swap it out for a

13" I am 5'10", but my legs are short and the 15" champion worked for me, but if my torso was any shorter it would have been tough. The same can be said for my Douglas 15". I wish I had gotten a 14" Douglas.

+1 on the 13"

I am 5'8" and wear the gold which is 12" and I am very comfortable with it.

Thanks for the help guys! I received an e-mail this morning from sport about equipment and was told that the '13 was designed mostly for women and younger umpires and that in two full seasons they have only sold two '13 Champion hardshells. Does anyone use the P220? Thanks all!

I'm 5"8" 180. I bought the 15 inch and it rode up to my chin when I got into position. I switched to the 13 and it's perfect

i have the p220 , and also the douglas 15" . i like them both , i have had the p220 a little more than a year , douglas since mid may this year . iam 6' 4" 255-260 lb's , i have taken direct shots at 70 + mph , not foul balls , from both . the p220 did sustain a minor dent (shoulder pad area) . i didnt feel anything  , the douglas showed no sign of the impact point . i think the douglas is more solid , think H S varsity or above . however the p220 covers me better , just a little , i have a long torso . i feel good with both and midwestump.com , wrote very highly of the p220 . the p220 for the money is hard to beat . d62 marc

I have never heard of that. I would think that most have a 13". But then again I do not know all the umpires out there!

My order was already shipped so I had to make a second purchase. I ordered the P220 '13, so I will be sending them back the P2100. I think the '13 will fit me better. Initially I chose the P210 because of the longer protection, but as you guys have stated might be a little too long.
