I enjoyed ejecting this coach

12u girls game HT is a rec team VT is a competitive team. I am BU working with a rookie PU who i have been mentoring all season. We have plate meeting and VC tells us batter must get completely out of box on steal to third or its interference. I say no she wants to argue and I say its not being called anything else. Game starts she of course is yelling interference and I ignore it. Close play at second and she starts yelling appeal and goes to PU instead of me and he told her his call. Her player blunts with 2 strikes it goes foul he calls her out VC throws a fit. She tells HM with 2 outs bases loaded they can't run on dropped 3rd strike before I can tell HM that's wrong a parent from her own team came over and told HM that you can run. Top of the last inning VT has one out and down 6-3. HM comes out and starts arguing with PU that the score is 6-4. He says I got 6-3 and she starts going off how its 6-4. I see him look at me with a please help look so I come in. I say coach home team has the book we go by there score plus both me and him have the same score 6-3. She keeps arguing and I said coach we are not going to argue this go back to yyour dugout. She keeps going off and i say coach last warning either go back to your dugout or I am calling ballgame (league allows umpire to forfeit game) I turned and started walking to first and she is now following me so I say ballgame. She than calls me a moron so i ejected her (she was suppose to play another game after) She than called the other teams players cheaters and left. I have never been so happy to eject acoach. PU told me after game she was coming out of dugout during game to argue balls and strikes. Never seen a coach act like this or have no knowledge of rules. Did I handle it correct

theres not a chance in hell I will be forfeiting a game before ejecting the coach....once you said go back to your dugout and she didn't dump her on the spot then worry about a forfeit if she doesn't leave

In retrospect you should have been firmer at the plate meeting.

When a coach starts TELLING you how to umpire at the plate meeting you are going to have a bad day.

 

All involved would have been better off to have ejected her when she started with "Game starts she of course is yelling interference and I ignore it."

Forfeiting a game based on the actions of one person should be avoided if at all possible. I'd only forfeit a game if after being ejected, a coach refused to leave. And that would be only if the league allowed it. Most leagues allow us to suspend a game, and then the issue is referred to the league's BOD for dispensation.

Why the hell was she still in the game?  Over and over again she demonstrated her desire to be relieved of her coaching responsibilities.  I, for one, would have accomodated her much earlier.

Tell her at the plate meeting she is completely wrong. First time she says interference during the game, tell her."Enough!" A second time, dump her. Do Not Ignore It!

The appeal question, needs to come to you and not be granted, make sure your partner understands that. A simple statement,"A bunt on a third strike is an out, Let's go!" On her statement about the D3K, tell her that the rules discussions are over, coach don't umpire. Any mouth, run her.

At the plate meeting, if a coach tries to lecture the umpires about rules, I calmly state,"Don't tell us how to umpire, and I won't tell you how to coach".  If the coach wants to argue at the plate meeting, then I suggest that their game end at the plate meeting. That would have made it a much better game experience for all involved.

After the point where you explained that the home team had the "official rulebook ", when she continued arguing, u would have given her one more warning maybe, then the "train to the parking lot" is leaving the station and it is time to eject. I try to work with and be reasonable with coaches which most appreciate but there is a limit and if she isn't holding up her end of the deal, there is no reason to let her stay acting immature like that. (Assuming she was an adult, so not unreasonable IMO to also assume that she should act like one, especially when being a role model for her team as one of the coaches.). Time to go; ejection well overdue.

I would have ignored her, and finished the plate meeting.  If she would have continued I would have told her "thats your little secret, keep it to yourself".

Question, everyone handles people diffrent but was a slash bunt or jusr a regular bunt? If it was slash bunt its not an out there swining the bat, consider a swing.

 

 anyways i do agree with others coach should of been warned from the start and she open her mouth again she be gone.

I'd have let her know that she was not actually a member of the umpire crew for that day, and I'd have let her know in no uncertain terms that her input on such matters was not desired and would not be further tolerated. If she gave me ANY lip or attitude, I'd dump her right then and there.
