Here is the situation I was doing plate for adult league game, the thrower (pitcher) was a hard thrower for that league and acted like he was Steve Carlton and was mumbling thru out the game in the dugout about ever pitch he thought was a strike, meanwhile the other pitcher control guy never said a word the whole game. After he had won and game was done for the game he started on me with half his words fbombs it only lasted a minute or so. NOw I can not eject him for a game that is over but did report to my assignor . My thought is to give him a short rope if I have him again my question is this would I be looking for a reason to EJ or did his track record from the last game warrent the short rope if I have plate and he is pitching again.

new game=clean slate.....see the plate meeting thread....if we want a clean slate we have to give it too

I would not give him any more or less leeway than you would give anyone else. If a manger or player carried a beef into the next game how would you react?

As far as his tirade is concerned, a pitcher cursing is not necessarily grounds for ejecting. If it was youth ball it would be. If it was personal it would be. If it was overly demonstrative on the field it would be. I suppose there is a lot HTBT.

Read the thread clean slate agreed, as stated turned it over to assignor and will let it rest.

During the game, do your best to keep your ears out of the dugout..........mumbling to his teammates and aiming words at you is two dfferent things....you determine the difference....ignore the first one........shut down the second one.......... after the game is done, clear out..........dont hang around to get ambushed by a disgruntled player..........and last leave anything from that game at the gate.........new game new slate.......

Did he start in on you on the field or at your car? On the field, dump him, many leagues make him sit a game. At your car, both you and your partner write a report to the assigner. After that, clean slate. Now if a pattern develops then his leash gets shorter.

Dump him.

Adult leagues here are NABA and any ejection results in suspension and/or a fine. If a player does something after the game you would have dumped him for during the game, dump him.

We had an adult double last night with three ejections. I was the game management so I had to make sure the players stayed off the umpires after the game. It was fine, nothing happened but you never know.

"pitcher cursing is not necessarily grounds for ejecting"

I respectfully diagree. I stand by my words. Look at the rest of what I wrote.

Your post implies that any cursing by the pitcher (or any player?) is grounds for ejection in any situation. Doesn't  the situation influence the decision at all? I would still argue that there is a lot of HTBT.

Adult ball. If you feel profanity is automatically an ejection at this level, you'll have a forfeit your first (and last) game.

Adult ball is the ONLY level where profanity not directed at mysel or my partners goes unnoticed. The fans that come to these games need to understand that I'm not there to play language cop. In a college or HS game we give a player a warning for profanity only when we're certain it's loud enough to be heard in the stands. A firm "watch the language" usually takes care of it. And again, this is only if the profanity is not directed at the crew.

It's typical of the average fan to think that any conflict that they don't like, the umpire should intervene.
