Impressions of BBCOR Bats

The college baseball season is a couple weeks old now. What are your impressions of the BBCOR bats?

A recent article posted on the NCAA website shows a significant drop in home runs from last year. My first game of the year went 8-1/2 innings, 4-1 score, 2:10 minutes. The BBCOR bats make this umpire very happy.

If it does what it supposed to, scores should go down. Maybe not as much as wood but it should hold the scores down.

I had 4 D-1 scrimmages this year and only had 2 dingers. One the players went nuts, it was their teams first.

Last year I worked a D-II game when the visiting team hit eight home runs and won 26-3 (home team hit one also). I sure wish we had the BBCOR bats that day!

In 8 games so far, ZERO home runs.

In my 10th game of the young season, I saw my first home run with a BBCOR bat.

The only park that this shot might not have been out of is Yellowstone.

It must have something to do with the weather warming up, but, in my last 7 games, a total of 17 games this season, I have now seen 9 homeruns with the BBCOR bats.

Had my first game yesterday. If they catch the ball, we'd have done nine innings in about 2:15.

This was a stat that was shown during a college game.

First weekend last season.

ACC - 47 homeruns

SEC - 44 homeruns

TCU - 6 homeruns

This season first weekend

ACC - 16 homeruns

SEC - 21 homeruns

I saw two break in my first game of the season. Coach said he has had 3 break in last few games as well.

Anyone else seen that? with that rate; might as well get wood bats.

LSU Shreveport (NAIA) is still crushing the ball even with BBCOR bats. They hit 5 in the three game series I had with them! And yes we checked bats!

Is it required to check bats in NAIA? It isnt in NCAA, and I dont recall this as being one of the rule / mechanics differences (but I only do about 4 or 5 NAIA games / year)

9 inn game completed 2hr 5 min - Friday (Score: 4-2 (8.5 inn Complete))

Double header on Sat (two 7 inn games):

Game one: 1 hr 30 min (Score: 6-3 (6.5 inn complete))

Game two: 1 hr 45 min: (Score: 10-0 (7 inn complete))

In the entire series there were 2 HR's hit but there had to be 20 bunts! I love these new bats :-)

Not required but we've had teams ask us all year if we were going to, so we just went ahead.

Honestly I don't mind. It's almost preventive officiating to me.

Just curious....

I saw a JUCO team play a D3 JV team today and the JUCO team used wood.

When I asked why they said they couldn't get any BBCOR bats. I know CA HS's have sucked up a ton of them, but does anyone know where a JUCO school can get them?
