Nope. Black.

You mean frame or TW?

Ive got old black pads and an old mask I thought about redoing in black so I could have options.

I have the same mask/pad combo. I think it looks best with powder shirts. Very cool on those hot summer days.

In the summer league I call we wear mostly cream or black. I thought it would look good with the cream and black hat combo. Next on the list is go ahead and order the black TW and be interchangeable!

You don't have many other options in harnesses. I got a navy one and put it on my FM4000 with tan TW's for the games I do with shirts in navy trim. Otherwise, my other two masks have black harnesses.

For a second, I thought you were announcing that TW's caved and are skinning pads in silver!  :wow:

I deduced, though, why they don't... I have a guess that the microfiber they use to skin their pads is, while exceptionally soft, not too cheap or durable to hold up against being chucked into the dirt and mud and dust and grass that catchers' masks do. I thought that, for certain, they'd market their pads to catchers, but they'd have to offer them in no less than five other color options, just to start with. Catchers routinely throw their masks, while us Umpires are much more... civil and respectful of ours. ;)

@csabo17 – I'm jealous as all get out. Around here, some crazy "navyphile" sits in on the rookie Umpire classes and tells all the rookies that they should get navy to start with, and then powder w/ navy trim as a "possible second". I'm one of the few umpires in our area that has grey, let alone other alternate colors.

we have a few guys in our local high school association who have been calling longer then ive been alive, Literally! They still only have navy. Its well known if your assigned with one of these guys you are wearing navy that day! Also bring your gear because your getting the plate also. Us younger guys got more energy they say. Super funny thing is our local association took some dues money and got everyone a new shirt this year. You could pick whatever color you wanted...........and big surprise, new navy for them both.

Is this turning into one of those reality shows, where you have to say "Yes to the mask", and get opinions from your girlfriends and future mother in law on what colors look good on you?

Let me answer this. Yes it is.richard-simmons-300x252.jpg

I think its more of a look what I got type thing!

Its a new world we live in. Its now safe for another man to ask another man if what hes wearing looks ok..... Except in eastern ky. Which is why I get my opinions from the internet.

That statement sounded like Brokeback Mountain.  :wow::jerkit::rollinglaugh::stir

Wow are we to the point where we have to match the color of the mask harness to our shirts?!?!? Incredible.

No, it's not to that point. It's not to the point where you _have_ to do anything.

For me, it's just a carryover from my catcher and hockey goalie days – I want(ed) my gear to match and look like a cohesive set.

I'll never put down someone for having what they can afford. I _will_ knock someone down a peg who is ignorant of what they could have, or could be using, despite being able to afford it (I'm not saying you, Jax, or anyone here in particular is).

Look at it this way... If you look professional, and act professional, the coaches and players and parents have a much greater chance of treating you in a civil, respectful manner than if you look unkempt and shoddy. Dress for success. If you do the best you can with what you've got, then so be it. If you're a commanding presence like BigUmpire, you can wear whatever the heck you want. Probably black.

Another possibility of why TW doesn't use leather is because it doesn't allow air to pass through as quickly, thus making a difference on the protection value. Just a thought.

I have noticed on some black mask pads that the black coloring comes off. I have always bought tan for this reason. Do the TW's have problems with the black color coming off?

No.  However, the tan are somewhat of a chore to keep reasonably clean.

Yes, at least on my set.

How does black come off on the TW pads? It is a black fabric, not leather or synthetic. I could see them fading from the sun or washings, but not coming off.
