Can you post a photo of the mask stock harness, please

@ Mr Ump

I use the Wilson MLB harness like I sent you the link to.  I have used the Gerry Davis brand and the Diamond (with Ump-Attire logo sewed on back).  Probably used some kind of no-name or Honig's brand and the Wilson with the W like you have.  I don't think there has been any difference in my memory about how they feel or adjust.

I adjust the side strap distances for a loose fit and top straps then wrap the loose strap end back over the buckle and tape the running end of the strap down onto itself so it cannot pull loose.  I do the same with the top strap.  I also tape the side straps onto the top (horizontal) ear bar so the mask swings very loosely when I am hit by a ball.  It also pulls off my head very easily. I wear a tight six-stitch hat on the plate so the hat stays put.  I recently bought a new 8 stitch CBUA hat to replace my original 2007 and 2008 CBUA six stitchers.  I tried it on and it fit well.  I am sure it will give me more shade protection on plate and bases and looks more normal.  I don't like the stubby bill look of a 4 stitch. Hate and will never wear the penis head look of the small 1" brim plate hat.

Penis Head Look....LOL...I like that.....so anyway the only reason to go with the MLB harness is the look, no difference in performance....right?

None I can tell.  There is no elasticity in the MLB Wilson or the Big Gold W Wilson or the Davis or the Diamond.  Just a nylon strap.  I know some are elastic but these are not.

That is why I think I am going to switch to the Honigs strap...I kinda like the elastic part.......makes it easier to switch between  4-6-8 stitch hats if the need arrises.....

I guess that's because you like the harness tight?

I usually wear six.  Sometimes I wear a 4 and just recently added an 8 to my mix and I find no need to re-adjust the non-elastic Wilson MLB harness.  I do wear the loosest harness of anyone I have worked with though.

Only hats I can't wear are the  one-size-fits-all style elastic headband style.  My head is small, size 7.  None of those elastic hats fit me very well and since the weight of the mask pushes on the bill.

One thing I have learned is I can continue to learn.  Maybe the elastic band would be better?  Maybe a tighter fitting mask harness would be better?  I might try it and see.

Find what works best for you.  Good luck

I totally lied to you. The MLB Wilson harness strap (main strap) is elastic.  The smaller straps that hook to the mask are non-stretch nylon.

I don't know what I am thinking.  I got a new one with a mask I traded for with ACPAR72 and it was quite elastic.  My old one is not, it's my original mask strap from ten years ago.

I wear the harness so loose that the elastic just doesn't matter to me.

Anyway, good luck in your search and decision.

Sorry for the confusion.  I like the MLB logo much better than the gold W of Wilson.

You are right, time to blacken in that W logo until the MLB harness comes in...

Update on my feelings about Team Wendy mask pads:

I like them now.  No real difference in weight from my black Wilson traditional pads.  They softened up quite a bit from first wearing.  Have not been hit again since first game I wore them but I am confident they will not feel as hard when compressed against my face from force of a ball.

They do muffle your voice a bit in comparison to leather pads as others have mentioned.  I like them now and will keep them.  Sorry Mr Ump.

I understand Majordave...I ordered a pair in black and just need one more TW for my all black mask.....probably order next week...was looking to get yours on a deal but still $40 is not a lot when I will sell the slightly used wrap arounds for $30-35....

Oh yeah...I am sold.  No doubt.  You can have my Team Wendys when you pry my dead cold fingers from my mask.

This winter switched out the stock Wilsons on my Dyna-Lite with black TW's.  JV plate game today.  Took a shot (foul ball) right off the right side chin/jaw (and then off my WV Plat).

Felt nada. Nothing. Zip.

I was sure I had been clocked.

They are starting to soften up nicely now.

Looking forward to breaking in the tan TW's later this summer on the new mask Santa brought.

I'm a believer.

Really?  An Army Major can be muffled by a humble set of face mask pads?

So I was rumbling through a box of old ump gear I found in the garage (had not opened it when I moved into my new house) and lo and behold....there was a perfectly fine MLB harness....looks like I used it only a couple of times....I don't even remember buying it....probably been there at least 10 years...lol...so anyway I got out my Shout, Scrubbing Bubbles and a brush and clean it up...then threw it in the dish washer and now it looks brand new, like straight out the box.....strapped it on my black Dyna Lite with the TW's and the whole rig looks like new money....nothing like shopping for gear in my own used gear box.....that is a win....

Okay, I got these three rigs set up the way I like my mask.  Fit, pads, comfort and tightness in all are perfect for me. This has been the mask rotation for the 2014 season.

Just sent my platinum CP in to get retrofitted by Team Wendy. Hoping I like it enough to sell off all my other CP's and thin down my storage requirements.

Got back my Team Wendy Retrofited Platinum CP this weekend.

+'s:

1) Profile: pads are so much sleeker

2) Look: The Black pads on grey plate look is NICE!!!

3) Construction: The CP retrofit production seems a step above what I have seen on some of the mask pads.

4) Under Shoulder Pad Width: Provide extra gap protection due to the pad being a little wider under the shoulder to add gap coverage

-'s:

1) Weight: Although thinner, the density of these pads are much greater making the CP a little heavier than with original pads

2) Under Shoulder Pad Width: Need to be broken in, so that I can raise my arms up and put my mask on without working through the pad.

?'s:

1) Heat: I can wait to see how this thing breathe's

All in all...there will be a sale going on with my remaining CP's.

Is there somebody out there who have the Force3 chest protector and a Wilson TW retrofit.  I've been reading about the weight of the TW and I would like a direct comparison between the weight of the 2 .  If the TW retrofit cost is the same as a new Force3 chest protector I rather purchase the Force3.

I have the Unequal Chest protector. And my good friend has the TW retrofit on a Wilson Gold. They are within ounces if each other.

I've got both an Unequal and a TW L/XL Gold and they are very similar in weight. I personally like the Unequal more due to its fit and comfort when worn but I've taken very few shots over the last year and a half with it so I really can't comment on how well the protection is against hard shots but thus far I am a very satisfied Unequal customer.
