I thought Mexico looked more like Kenny Powers y los Charros de Copales.

As for Canada, they showed zero class or gamesmanship either. If you are bunting late in a game to run the score up, and the next guy gets hit, you don't start a fight. You take your base, then double steal and run up the score. You can't have your maple glazed doughnuts and pepperoni and eat it too.

First pitch in a few minutes... R.A Dickey vs Sameul Deduno

Roof is closed, crowd is amped, 2 dozen+ MLB All-Stars on both teams.  Winner gets their ticket punched to SF... Loser has to play PR for the other ticket. The two survivors then play for seeding.

PU - Angel Hernandez; U1 - Kasumi Manabe; U2 - Marvin Hudson; U3 - Edgar Estivision

Looking forward to a great game...

That was totally on Mexico for being idiots, Canada didn't make the rules where run differential mattered. That wasn't running the score up, it was doing their job. And Mexico (esp their 3B) got all butthurt about it and turned punk. Forgot they were going up against a bunch of guys who grew up playing hockey and got what they deserved.

But the Mexican grew up playing Soccer and Lucha Libre.

Lucha Libre- haven't heard that term in years.

The Canadian batter was an idiot too. If he throws at your head, then have your beef.

and regardless of the tournament rules, that is running up the score.

He threw at him three times...once, maybe twice, ok you made you're point. Three times, and the pitch that him wasn't at his head but it was above his elbows, yea I'd be a little hot too.

Hernandez seems to be having an off night.

Must be driving him crazy trying to call these crazy pitches - on both sides. He does seem to be trending high and outside on his zone.

Have you ever even played baseball?

It's not that the guy got hit. It's that they threw at him 3 times. You get one shot, maybe two, but definitely not three. Any team worth its salt comes off the bench to the defense of their teammate there. Put Tosoni in a US jersey and the stars and stripes in the 1B dugout, then ask yourself what would your opinion be? If you're suggesting you would've stayed on the bench had that been your boy in the box, I wouldn't want you on my team.

Of course, none of this happens if Gorman just dumps the guy after the second pitch. I've said it before several times already, did he really think the warnings were going to do something?

And of course we were trying to run up the score. That's the nature of the tiebreaker rules. Nobody batted an eyelash when Mexico did it to us in 2006 in an eventual 8-1 win because there was going to be a 3 team tiebreaker, all with 2-1 records, where run differential sent a team wit 2 wins home...that ended up being...imagine this, Canada, because Mexico ran it up. If the US had've lost to Italy later that night, then beat Canada Sunday, you have 3 teams at 1-2 where the head-to-head solves nothing, with the 2nd spot in Pool 2 being determined by said tiebreaker.

And while you're on the subject of "maple glazed doughnuts", don't start with that obnoxious bullSH*#. It isn't funny. Again, double standards...

Finally, rough night last night for Angel. One has to wonder, with MiLB guys doing the majority of ST plates, how much of his inconsistency was rust. Getting back there is like riding a bike, but I can only imagine what that would've been like last night on its own, let alone in March when you've probably only done at most two plates to date in the year.

Remember both countries are part of NAFTA.  The Canadian did a Free Trade of 2006 for a 2013.

What a great way to spend my First-Game-of-Season Eve... USA vs Puerto Rico to see who goes on, or who goes home.  No pressure!

"Captain America" (David Wright) is out for the rest of the WBC... and maybe the start of the season... with back problems, so if USA advances to SF, Chase Headley from the Padres will take his place. This is the first game of the tourney that the USA has played with the "roof open".

PU is Mark Wegner (mic'd up), Angel Hernandez is U1, with Edgar Estivision at U2, and Paul Hyham is U3.  Smaller crowd tonight, but it's still arriving with a lot of walk-ups.  Winner tonight gets the Dominicans tomorrow in a seeding game.

Why would you ever try to run on Molina?

Stanton batting in Captain America's spot... with the bases loaded, down by two in the 8th... here we go.

Edit: Crap.

The USA Colony of Puerto Rico won, like in Athens 2004 to the Dream Team.  Now to win tomorrow against the Dominican Republic.  Like I said before, I'm accepting applications for the Puerto Rico Fan Club.

Here is the uncut version rather than the MLB cliffnote version.

Unlike the cliff note version, we do not get the 3rd baseman pointing to his ribs with the ball in his hand is the full version.

Also reminded me of this old MLB one

Rippley led the NL in ejections in 1984, his rookie year as a full time MLBU, with 19. Guess where 17 of those ejections came from??
