Shin Guard Question

Fellow umps, I was wondering if anyone could help me out on a shin guard question.  I am debating between the Gerry Davis Davishins and the new All-Star LGU 1000 single knee guards.  I am especially duck footed so when I work the box stance my slot knee is faced more toward the batter than the pitcher.  As a result, once or twice a year  I will take a shot off the inside or my knee.  I am looking for a guard that wraps around the knee much more than my Wilson Charcoal's.  Does anyone on here have/had both of these guards and if so what are your thoughts.  Also, do the Davisshins have enough padding to absorb a good shot.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Your best bet would probably be the old lobster style catchers guards. I don't remember who made them or if they are even made anymore. IMO, you'd be better off adjusting your stance. Try uploading some pics.

Stay away from the "lobster" shins. They looked cool but had issues sticking when used often.

I think I remember that the new System7 shins have padding that wraps the knee a little more then standard shins.

Have you thought of adding something to augment your current guards to protect that area a little more? My friends' son plays college soccer, and he wears a Kevlar pad to help protect a previous injury. Something like that under your guards could help. Not really sure what you could find that would fit under what you have now or will buy, but it might be worth a little time to dig into, with or without new shin guards.

Looks like the OP is a really good candidate for the UE shin guards, it will have kevlar on them.  I heard that this shin guards will be lightweight too.

I have the S7 shins and love them. They are built very similar to the catchers model. IMO THey provide more wrap around coverage than my old platinum or Honigs did. This is the first set of shins that once I put then I don't have to think about them until the end of the game. The delta flex harness keeps them from twisting on me. The only complaint is the ankle protection at the bottom will flare out.

I have never worn the Davishins but I know a lot of guys who do and love them.

I use these.  Love them.  Good price point as well.  Only real issue is the bottom, but I've modified mine to give some extra protection.
