What happened here?

Usually I wouldn't post Youtube videos here, but I was browsing, and this one is baffling me a bit...

Granted that this is a very short sample size, but the two umpires seem good. Sharp mechanics, well dressed, nothing jumps out as Smitty... This is a USSSA tournament, so they have to be registered.

What do you think could have happened to cause a post game ejection of the catcher? Following the ejection, I agree with the two coaches being ejected, but think that the BU should have intervened sooner, and both should have tried harder to get out of dodge.

Interesting to note that the description, while very biast, says that the catchers ejection was overturned by the TD to allow him to play in the next game, but that both coaches ejections were upheld.

Any thoughts?

Hey I know those guys . I wasnt there that weekend but i heard the story . saw the video and its been beaten to death. The moral of the story is everyone has a camera these days , watch your self yourself because before you know it you'll end up on you tube, and have 10000 hits .

The good thing is (minus the BU waiting a little to long to jump in) they handled it well and they didn't make a fool of themselves on YouTube.

Catcher might have used ill advised language. I have watched this a couple times, and all I can think is the ump heard some language out of the catcher. Tossing the Ass Coach and manager was appropriate.

If you read the old thread you can see that Ponyump (who knows the umpire in the vid) says that the kid points and turns to say "how do you like that". If the kid had already said something to the PU then I have no problem with the post game EJ.

I've got to agree with the others...I would have had to hold back a chuckle.

Now if the batter turned and said "Really?" (1st of all that puts HIM on thin ice), and F2 comes back with "F$&*k yea, Willy"..Then, yes, he's gone.

I don't tolerate 11 year old's using language. If he had said, darn straight willy, I would have laughed. Hell, damn, SH*#, bullSH*# and anything harder don't play in my LL games. I don't use the language in games and they won't either. I respect your opinions, I just don't agree!

I don't know why the catcher was ejected...I would assume he said something offensive. At 1:01-1:02 after the first strike out, the home plate umpire is shaking his head and appears to be talking to the catcher. I'm going out on a limb and saying the catcher said something there and the umpire is warning him not to do it again.

I think maybe there should have been an intermediate step between simply saying something to the catcher and shaking your head to then ejecting after the next batter...but I don't know what was said. If it was bad (at that level) maybe address the first comment with the head coach and let him handle it. I just think there needs to be some opportunity for the coaching staff to control their player before escalating to an ejection.

At the higher levels I wouldn't go to the coach, but I would get out in front of the catcher, clean the plate and make sure the dugout understands I have an issue with the catcher. They can choose to take it from there or let him die on his own. At the youth levels that's a little over the top and with the importance of sportsmanship, I think I'd just call time, call out the head coach, tell him what was said and ask him to handle it because if it happens again he's not going to like how I'm going to handle it. Now the ball is in his court and everyone in the park knows there's a problem vs. no obvious issue leading to an unknown ejection and angry coaches who didn't know there was a problem, leading to 2 more ejections.

I don't think the post-ejection was handled very well by either umpire. The plate umpire should have kept some distance between himself and the team/coaches and told the head coach you'll talk to him and make him come to you. They are obviously going to be upset about the ejection and want an explanation. Walking into them is only going to escalate the situation (as it did - 2 more ejections). The base umpire should have stopped doing his secretarial duties and offered some help a whole lot sooner.

I do think both looked like they have been well trained and looked the part, which is nice to see at that age level.

And finally how about the field??? The Wrigley Field look...that's awesome!
