If you are so inclined, to remove the plate see my post in this forum on the adventures of drilling out the rivets. It turned out fine but, I learned a lot. I do like them better now that the plate is gone and I have also wondered why it is there at all. Anyone that is going to spend a c-note on shin guards likely has plate shoes. Why can't Wilson and the Cowboy get together and at least make these easily detachable?

Simple:

Buttons would fall off.

Metal zippers or snaps would rust.

Velcro will frey, collect and trap dirt like you wouldn't believe, and scratch the holy heck out of your shoes.

If they cared, they could use a short screw with a flat head nut similar to the fasteners that helmet companys use to attach face masks. The nut is a comination grommet, washer and nut and would lay flat. Those that chose to have the plate could keep it and those that choose to remove it could. Likely, Wilson uses them on thier batting helmets already. This problem is easily solved with out much effort.

Wilson reminds me a lot of General Motors......

My mask is a Wilson Dyna-Lite with Team wendy pads

I cut the two side straps on the harness to make it easier to get off my head and not pull my hat off

I blacked out some of the logo to get more of a one color the original was just an eye sore to me.

I have a Champion P220 chest protector. I used some black electrical tape and blacked out the champion logo and added one of my own.

A bit off the topic, but how do you like the Team Wendy's pads?

They are really nice they feel soft to the touch so they don't irritate my face like my old pads. They seem to offer a lot of protection. They are designed like a micro fiber pad. I haven't been able to try them in a game. But our season will start up soon so i will have a full review when i get them out on the field. But I feel that if they are made of the same material and by the same company that makes protection for our men and women in the armed services then they should be great for us umpires. (I hope so)

the only thing i don't really care for about them so far is that they are little heavier that the pads I had before but they are still very nice.

Umpirecordova,

I like what you did with your reeboks. What type of paint did you use, and how long did it take you?

I'm glad you like them I liked them a lot better when I first tried it. And as of right now I just used a permanent marker, just to get an idea of what it would look like and if i liked it. I was going to ask you guys what kind of paint or permanent solution I could use. I know someone else on this post said that they used model car paint. So I was going to try that unless someone else has an idea. For the time with the Marker it took me about 20 minutes, I had to make sure i got all the corners and I had to switch marks a few times.

Yes, acrylic model car paint works, ..... Tamiya is what I used. But, ...Sharpie has 'paint' markers as well now.....

Instead of using black electrical tape on your harness try feeding the ends of the straps throuh the buckle, trimming the excess, and melt the ends so they don't frey. Also on your CP try acetone to remove the logo. A much better look then tape not to mention when it gets hot the tape will become soft and start slinding.

I would be careful with the acetone. It may do more to the CP than just remove the logo. Not all solvents and all plastics are compatible. This may create an unwanted result.

I spent just over $8.00 to have the screw thingy added to my new Wilson Charcoal Umpire Shin Guards. Now can take the protective toe plate off and attach it, again and again.

I have a platinum and the same harness issues. I like the idea of the AllStar harness but how did you attach the clips? Did you have to snip the ends off so they would work in the strap clips?

It is on here somewhere, but he had the strap cut off the delta and the strap from his Wilson cut in half and attached to the delta.

I didn't know about the shin guard replacements! I'm going to look into it.

It seems we are itching closer to an All-Star hardshell CP. I CAN'T WAIT!

Here are both of the replacement straps

I just got my parts in today. I wanted a better fit and I always had problems with the straps getting all spun around.

So, attatching the harness was no problem but the straps that cradle your stomach and clip onto the front were too short. I had to cut the elastic strap from the WV in half and connect them (the 2 new cut pieces) to the existing clips just off the All Star harness. I then re-attatched the WV hooks (which connect to the front of the CP) and trimmed the excess strapping after getting a nice fit. The elastic cuts seem ok --- I will get my honey to add some stitching if they start to fray. I did heat the nylon cuts with a lighter though.

I also got some All Star pads in for my mask. I currently have a Wilson titanium but wasn't too fond of the wrap around pads. So I added the All Star pads to my Wilson mask and kept the Wilson mask harness. The mask seems lighter with the All Star pads. The pads I ordered were the PFM25LUC black.

I ordered through sportsdepot.com

I just got my all star harness and attached It to my champion 220. And all i can say is WOW this is great. To anyone who want so snug fitting CP that wont move during a game this is your answer!! It did take a little ingenuity to get the straps on but when I did it was amazing. I did not like the fact that the throat pad on the 220 kept ramming into my throat, so i got rid of it now it fits even better.

does the wendys pads fit on the wilson titanium frame

I don't know from personal experience. But i saw a picture of a friend of mine who had a titanium and had team Wendy pads. Looked to fit to me.

What have you done to your gear? I know basically everything of mine has been played with or tinkered with in some way shape or form. For example my west vest platinum. (please see pictures for reference) I've shaved the corners on the neck and trimmed the pad. I've put in new rivets. Trimmed the pads under the arm pits. And taken off the extra chest pad for a more low profile look, i.e. the riddel or douglas. Also I've taken off the back strap and replaced it with the one from my All-star catchers gear from college for a better fit. This is just one example but I'm wondering what you guys have done to yours?

What did you do to take that pad around the neck off?

simply snipped the string that holds it with scissors.  It's not that hard.  Then if you want you can sand down the plastic so its nice and smooth
