With the Major League season now over. When did your season end or when do you expect your season to end.

It appears mine may be done by Nov 9th. Then there will be a long 4 month winter.

I had my last game about 2 weeks ago.............could have worked this past weekend, but I went to Fort Bragg to visit my daughter in the ARMY...

Took my equipment out of the car to make room for the wife's suitcase

(a huge suitcase for a 2 day trip):)

Will do the final clean gear up and hang up this weekend...

I hope you're wifes suitcase still left room in your car for your golf clubs. Fayetteville, Southern Pines, Pinehurst have incredible golf courses and its not too far (2 hrs) from Myrtle Beach with more great golf and some reasonable prices.

it was my first trip to the area and I thoroughly enjoyed going by Pinehurst....maybe in the spring next year I can sneak a round in... this one was just too short

My season ended in late July with my 101st baseball game of the year. I also do football, so after a short family vacation, I was getting my other gear bag ready. Youth footbal started the 3rd week of August and the HS season will end for me on Thanksgiving.

Don't worry, I have decided to try my hand at officiating wrestling this year and the classes start Thanksgiving week. Wrestling season runs into March...what a coincidence back to baseball (and softball).

My biggest concern is that my employer is pressing for me to be in the office until 5pm every day. Unless I can convince them otherwise my number of HS baseball and softball will be greatly reduced. I was working out of my house and able to make up my time after my games were over.

that I got to work the plate in a D1 intrasquad today at University of Kentucky. Three man crew. Family day with announcers, big scoreboard with jumbotron and replays, music, the whole shebang. Temp in low 70's. Short sleeves. What a great day. They have the three game intersquad "world series" next weekend so I get at least one one of those.

I am now up to 190 games this year counting fall games. Pretty good 2008 and looking forward to an even better 2009. Hope yours was everything you wished for.

Dave,

I'm jealous on both the intrasquad game and your game count. I wish I had the availability to get that many.

So far I have 116 games played and 34 cancellations, so I could be at 150 if we didn't have such a wet year. I still have 3 on the schedule, but tonight and Wednesday are looking doubtful.:)

in the end. I guess.

...if we didn't have such a wet year. (

We have had a VERY dry year and are in a drought here in KY. (The state not the jelly-Grin).

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode line: "Everything always evens out for me."

Maybe next year. Of course, you are getting the big bucks for your employment and I am earning a measly teacher's salary. (forget that summers off crap. There are Master's Degrees and Rank I and administrator's qualification college classes to take.) No sour grapes here, I left the big bucks of an attorney for the more free time to do what I want (like umpiring).

I too, am jealous of your game count.....my yearly goals are to be somewhere in the 100 game count, yet....Its been years since I got that many in.....

My "real" job..., my travel schedule, my sons baseball schedule all seem to keep me from getting there......and this year, I lost 2 dozen games to rain.....

:HD: Doin the happy dance, just got scheduled some games for this weekend :HD:

Now if this rain would stop. :tantrum:

I was just thinking I would be cleaning the gear and putting it away this weekend.

Hey all,

Mine ended back in July as well, right after a Triple Crown tournament. Ended up with knee surgery two weeks ago and looking forward to getting back behind the dish come February-March time frame with HS season.

...but I got a few games in in September at the Mid-America clinic in Springfield, Mo. My 2009 season begins in January with some HS and LL clinics with HS play starting the 2nd week of February.

Basically we can umpire all year round in Victoria, Oz.

Summer season goes from October to March (3 week break over xmas). Can included mid week games, as well as both Saturday and Sunday - all double headers.

Winter season from April to September. Winter games are only on weekends - all double headers - about 21 rounds.

Get one or 2 weeks break in between seasons.

When this site makes me a billionaire, I'll quit my day job and umpire here from March to September, then go down under to call ball October through March.

We can always do with more umpires downunder!

I would love to ump down under but am stuck with a short season in Canada - from early June to mid/late Sept. Sigh .....
