Therma Base for Plate?

Is there any way to tuck this jacket in? I'm ready to buy 2 of each color if I can tuck it in. I'm not a fan of the elastic band hanging out when working the plate. And, would it be possible for a tailor to remove the band and extend the jacket without it looking like $#!+ ?

As an aside but on the topic of tucking jackets in, I keep hearing Ed Rapuano's New York/New Jersey accent in my head from a couple of years ago at Tony Thompson's International Camp saying (to a guy who walked up to us with his jacket tucked in) "Oh look what we got heah, a F**ckin' Tuckah!" Then he proceeded to make fun of the guy for a few minutes. I Laughed my A$$ off and still do every time I think of that moment.

I have tried my thermabase on with my plate gear and it works well tucked in. I wouldn't remove the elastic as it helps to keep the jacket tucked.

Dale Scott's collar looks wierd on that Therma Base, ....yes?

The collar is really high, and stiff on these things. It looks like he got tired of it rubbing the back of his neck, and bottom of his ears, and tucked it inside. I find it bothersome also.

I like the warmth and feel, but don't care for the collar (I have a San Diego Padres Thermawarm, and it's built the same way.) I'm going to stick with my NOS(new old stock) +POS until something better comes out. Plus, I won't look like the Fonz, with a popped collar.

When you where the thermabase on the plate the collar must be folded under like you see in the picture. If not, like Kylejt said, the collar will be near your face. I personally like the way the collar comes up around the neck. This is an "extreme" weather jacket, so when I wear it, I will have it zipped all the way up to keep the neck warm while on the bases.

I personally like the tucked in look and it is the association standard where I work.

Last February at camp. Not only because of what Dave had told me but the wonder of how umpire pants shrink over the winter, but I didn't have mine tucked in. On day one we're doing our safes and outs. Rap stops at the guy in front of me and starts in on his "tucker" routine. I'm laughing out loud. Rap stops giving the guy in front of me grief about his tucked in jacket and turns back to me and says "What the $^& are you laughing at? You do your safes and outs and I'm going to $&%^& with this guy. I'll %^&* with you later." Which only made me laugh more. And to hear it in his "Connecticut" accent only makes it better. It sounds like something straight out of the Sopranos.

As an aside, again, My son and daughter have the exact jacket Francona is wearing. I bought them for them before we went to Fenway on my last leave in September. I have the Navy one with BOSTON on the front. Freaking excellent jacket regardless of the color or team. I am definitely getting one or two for umpiring when I get done here in ass-crack-istan. Won't be wearing it behind the plate though. I got two plate coats! (sorry, sometimes I am a smug S-O-B)
