Seems like I hear a lot about having to do LL games with only one ump. Why not in a situation like this where it's more or less a scrimmage game, just toss him the ball and say "why don't you do the game" and leave.

No skin off your nose. See what his reaction would be to that. Plenty more "real" games for you to do in other places.

IOW.... Toss yourself and institute a lifetime suspension from LL.

I am sure someone has consider this and posted about possible music "hooks" we should have recorded and use when a participant disqualifies himself from the game. Here are a couple already mentioned: "Vaya Con dios" "So long, Farewell" or perhaps "Hit the road jack" others?

(disclaimer - I mean this all in jest, certainly it would not be 'appropriate' or 'professional' of anyone to actually do this on the field.)

A close friend of mine ejected a catcher for arguing balls and strikes in AA Southern League. As ejected player made his way to the left field wall to exit into the visiting locker, the PA began to play "Happy Trails", by Roy Rogers !

Funny!

I have heard that song once or twice. Makes me laugh and smile!! I would never toss an organist!

I would in a heart beat if they want to be knuckleheads... it would be the greatest ejection of my life!

If he/she ain't on the field I can't eject them. All I can do is toss the home team coach for not controlling his employees/volunteers.

Not true. You can get rid of the scorekeeper or any other member of the pressbox, the organ player and I know of at least once, the groundskeeper. He was cussing and raising a ruckus with the PU from the HT dugout wanting the tarp pulled. The PU dumped him and then later did pull the tarp. It happened in the SAL about four years ago.

But I thought this was just a coach throwing together a 3 team scrimmage? LL has no authority there.

Seems to me that 9.01 (e) covers the groundskeeper pretty well as it being "on the field"! But the organist at the high school game was not "on the field"! She was 200 yards away in a press box in a mixed use field. Like I said, I found only humor in it anyway!!

For HS... then yes it is kn the coach as school personnel. However I am not restarting the game until this idiot with the musical instrument is off the field and in their car or the HC can follow them.

Danny,

Not at all. There is a difference between the mascots coming out to do this with the umpire's consent (willing to bet that was a stand in anyways but done with the Crew's blessing) and an organist being cheeky. One is planned way in advance.... the other is in reaction to something and insulting.

All I can do is agree to disagree here. Unless the organist is attempting to start a riot, I just laugh and look up at them. You do what you need to do.

You make funny assumptions. Like the mascot has permission to do this from the umpire association? Like the Phillie Phanatic has the OK to walk with a guide dog and cane by the MLB umps? It's entertainment based on known and recognised humor. Maybe you could throw out some newspaper columnist, too?

I don't see any funny assumptions.

Yes, they do.

Thank you for your corrections. So I assume an organist can get permission, too?

Hypothetically, yes. But they didn't. Whoosh!
