Plate Coat - Should I size up?

Okay fellas,

Honest opinions please. I just got my plate coat in the mail from Honigs today. I tried it on with my largest CP, which is my Gold. More often than not, I will be wearing my Douglas.

Should I size up to a 44 Reg? This is out of the box with no alterations.

Please give me your opinion on if I should get a 44?

I would say yes. To much CP showing. Maybe 46? Jk

Is more showing than here? Also, I will be wearing my Douglas primarily, not the Gold. But if it truly doesn't fit, I don't want that either.

I'm trying to explain to my wife why I want to post pictures of it on here...while doing so I forgot to shut off the flash.

I would go up a size. Now if you do you will most likely have to taper in the sides.

There is a pic of me somewhere on this site with me and my coat. I am a 42/43 and the coat is a 44 with the sides tapered and sleeves shortened....

wow thats a big difference the douglas is that much smaller? it looks better in the douglas. but id go up a size

I'd go up too. You can always get it tailored.

I thought Plate Coats were sized up anyhow .........but I'd go up to 44.

Well, it's pretty unanimous. I will be sizing up to a 44. Thanks for the feedback guys. I will probably have to do some altering though. I think it looks good w/ the Douglas, still doesn't look like it is supposed to look.

Here is the reason it looks tight to me. If you notice right at the bottom of the CP there is like a ridge going across your body. You can see it starting at the TOP button going both left and right.

You don't really see that on the other pictures you posted of the MLB guys.

Yes, that's the part that I don't like. I could probably drop 10, but sizing up, seems to be the better option.

Remember plate coats are for cold weather games, so I would also dress out wit a few layers on to get the full effect of the fit before you get the 44 tailored. You want a little room in the front so you don't pop that TOP button. Make sure you have your tailor reinforce that TOP button because it will take a beating.

Can you return this, I thought the Honig's coats were "special order" and custom made.

I too wear a 42R suit coat & did the same thing when I bought a Fechheimer 5-6 years ago. Bought a 42R plate coat and it was tighter than yours. Ended up sending it back and got a 44R and its a much better fit. I didnt have any alterations done and it was a no brainer.

They had one in their shop that they didn't have to specially make (well not for me at least). They shipped it to me and if it worked since I had already paid for it, then I'd just keep it. If didn't work (and it didn't), I would simply ship it back, then they'll go to Hardwicks for my 44 Reg, with no option to return it as you stated. So that's why I want to make sure the 44 Reg will be big enough before I tell them what size I need.

Id go up in size too it looks like its too tight across the shoulders. Note that the widest part isnt at your shoulders but at your arms just below the shoulders. The plate coat needs to extend out to that area more or less.
