I wear Peak Vision. These are great sunglasses that I bought several years ago from Gerry Davis Sports.

I just looked on their website and it doesn't look like they have a black frame anymore. So I will probably be switching to Oakley when these wear out.

What???? You don't want pink frames?

Warren's pic is the old version .....zm's pic is the newer version of the Flak XLJs.

I think anything POLARIZED would be good, but Oakley does have the market on this for sure.

For my size face, etc, ....I'm thinking about the Radar Path ...we'll see how the funds go.

But, ...I too am petrified of scratching them while working the dish .....that's a tough risk to purchase something nice and have a large potential to have them scratched ........but ..........

I have some $400 Ray Bans that got a nick in the sweet spot of the left lens from a pebble that got kicked up into my face by a foul.

I now believe that anyone who gets behind the plate without eye protection is nuts.

If you ever need a part to a pair of Oakley's, call them. Next to Ump -Attire they have the best customer service. You will get what you need.

I had to get a couple of items when I took off a pair of Oakley's on the bases when it got dark. I put them down the back of my shirt and then sat in the car......oppssssss.

Glad to hear you like the shooting glasses.

Called Oakley Saturday. My nosepiece will be here by Thursday, part and shipping for about $12. Awesome . Thanks Semper Fi :hi5:

....guys, ....do glasses for an umpire HAVE to be rimless at the bottom? I mean, ..is a full rimmed sunglass going to 'block your vision???'

I really don't think so, ....thoughts???

Hi there......

Ok, ...anyone use the Oakley Jawbone yet ??? Thoughts?

I love the coverage and the switchable lenses. Kind of ugly, but not too bad .... And, you can customize them for vented lenses for a fraction....thoughts?

http://www.oakley.com/custom/jawbone

If you can get by the slightly funny look to the Jawbone, ... when you customize them, you can turn the entire sunglass matte black, and it looks better. Also, for the same price as the Split-Jacket, you can get this Jawbone w/ better-and-vented lense choices. Starting to lean Jawbone a bit here.......

I also like the spit jacket .....you can't get vented lenses that come with a custom...but they look a little sharper ....the changeable lense thingy is still there too....

I guess they are ok if you are a HALO player. LOL j/k

Full rim is just not my style but they do look kinda cool.

HALO ??

anyhow .... that's why I asked about a full or half rim earlier in the thread. I got 2 responses (confirming my thoughts) that it really doesn't matter. There's a TON of function in those Jawbones. :question1:

Ok, ...so, ....I think I'm looking at customizing a pair of Oakley Jawbones.

The frame's a no brainer, ...matte black all around, everything....

The lenses ....that's a little different. At first, I thought black iridium was a no brainer, along with say, a G30 (rose tint) for softer light, etc.....

But, ...then I saw the VR28 Blue Iridium, which says is for medium to bright light, in combo with the G30 which is soft to medium light....this combo almost makes more sense from a function point of view.

Here's a link to all the accessory lenses for the Jawbone:

http://www.oakley.com/pd/6273/22886

So, .... if you were getting Jawbones, and had the choice of 2 lenses, what would you choose?? And, if you wear Oakleys, and have more than one lense....what color/ lenses do you have as alternates??

Thanks!

Don't know what levels you call but I would check with your association to make sure they don't have any restrictions on lens tints on umpire sunglasses. My association does not allow mirror or "bright" color lenses.

With that said I would say go with black, polorized, and clear. Clear works well for games in the rain :-)

No restrictions ...... I take my glasses off during plate meeting anyhow....but, as far as I know, no restrictions...
