He clearly went and should of been out no matter what level the game might have been. But that said Im surprised the umpire went for help because it was his call all the way and he should of been watching.

I'm just wondering what U1 saw. Did he see the attempt? What did he see or didn't see? I had an attempt as soon as he took his step toward 2B looking like he might run.

I don't think this should have been something to go for help on. No reason whatsoever. Either U1 has an attempt or he doesn't.

I don't think U1 was looking at BR when the attempt occurred. I think U1 realized he was looking toward the loose ball when the attempt occurred and a whole crapload of Braves saw something he didn't. U1 owned the mistake and made it right. I like when the umpires get together to fix something that needs to be fixed.

Side note. YOU KNOW the replay on the bigscreen showed the attempt. Do you think it is POSSIBLE that one of those umpires took a peek at the screen while they were conferring?

I'm not sure I would have called that an attempt close though. I just don't know if I see a step as an attempt.

Please remember it's not if he went into fair territory but if he is judged to be making an attempt to second.

That is definitely an attempt at 129-131. He is watching intently as the ball gets away and then he attempts, but as soon as he does, he realizes he better not go and cooly tries to act like nothing has happened. His reaction when they call him out is all you need to know. Just look at his face at 138-140 and then how quick he runs off at 148-50. Just that first left foot crossover step as he attempted was enough of an attempt, which still had him right on the line, and then he goes one more with the right foot into fair territory before he calmly "attempts" to undo his attempt at second. He knows he attempted and it is a good call. This is all an attempt need be, it has nothing to do with the old wives tale about having to turn right into foul territory or you are out. You can turn left into fair territory as long as you do not "attempt", but this is a good example of an attempt, without the guy making a 3 or 4 step attempt that is so obvious granny can call it IMHO.

Good example of knowing your responsibilities though - plate umpire should be watching the overthrow at 1B, correct? U1 should have kept his eye on the runner. That is why the manager went to him, that was his call.
