Guys,

What was the hardest or most shots you've ever had in a game, behind the dish? Mine was lost night with a straight on shot to the kisser. WOW! Staggered me a little. I've been wanting to take that type of shot with my HSM. That ain't right is it? Then I got one on my right forearm that caused my hand to tingle for about 10 minutes. I still haven't figured that out because I had my arms tucked in and my hands behind my knees.

I don't know about hardest or most, but my scarriest shot was my most memorable shot. I've told the story before, but I forgot to wear a cup that day. Fastest girl in teh league throws one in the dirt, catcher completely misses it and it grazes the boys. I then go on to call the rest of the game with my nuts in my throat.

The scariest shot I've ever taken was a few years ago. 12u, the batter fouled one off and it went straight for my throat guard. One of the fasteners came off it got it so hard. It didn't hurt really, but god, I think it would hit my adams apple if I wouldn't of had my throat guard on. I learned a very valuable lesson that day. Defiantly the scariest.

I have a bit of a long neck and even though my platinum fits real high on me and my Shock does a good job covering my neck, there is a few inches where a ball could get in, throat guard no doubt.

For me, there's a 2-way tie for hardest:

1) Fastball (probably around 65-70mph) untouched by either bat or catcher's mitt into my left index finger sitting atop my shin guard - broken fingertip - needless to say, my hand doesn't sit there anymore!

2) Fastball fouled into my throat guard, tearing one of the leather thongs holding it to my mask and forcing the protector into my throat. Choked a bit on that one and had to do the rest of the game w/o the protector cause I didn't have a spare thong w/me. I now carry two.

The most I've ever taken was just a few weeks ago. Fireballer F1 who's 'effectively wild' w/a good F2 for three innings. In the 4th, their genius rat replaces F2 with a player who couldn't catch a cold (& likes to move out of the way of pitches) and I spend the next 2+ innings playing backstop, even on some strikes! (how he managed that, I'll never know) Didn't get hurt, but it was definitely not fun.

I had an adult league game last year and the catcher couldn't have caught one of my 5 y/o son's pitches. I got hit too many times to count. the majority were in places I was protected, but I took some in the bread basket, arm, thigh quite a few times. I was getting pissed.

Last year 11u select a straight back foul caught me right under my CP and just over the belt coach asked f2 to call time so I could recover

I'd think a Select F2 would know what to do in this situation.

Took a bounced 80+ fastball to the throat the first plate game I did this spring. Nice bruise and a for a few scary seconds post-impact I couldn't get any sound to come out. My wife was there and 30 minutes later came back with a throat protector off of my son's catcher's mask for me between innings.

I just remembered a near miss I had during a slow-pitch game one time (keep in mind, absoletely no gear). There was a runner rounding third and headed home with a throw coming from right field to try and catch the runner at the plate. In my recognition of the play I tried to clear the bat and set myself up in time to catch the play at the plate. Short story even shorter I finally picked up the ball as it whizzed by inches from my left ear and wound up bounding out of play. That was a scary moment, too!

3 years ago I got hit in the L wrist hard enough to open my hand and drop my indicator. 2 days later a bruise shows up on the other side of my wrist. 3 years later the area is still sensitive to pressure.

Last year I took a foul ball off the bottom of my mask which jarred the mask into my bottom lip. The way it hit, I either bit into my lip or the force pushed my lip into my teeth. Either way, I was gushing blood everywhere. I have taken harder shots but this one definatley looked the worst.

Years ago calling a game that featured two of the best 13u pitchers in the province. 2nd inning home pitcher drills my middle finger with an untouched fast ball. Couldn't turn the out dial of my indicator until...

Top of 7th Away pitcher drills the index finger of the same hand, popping the finger out of place and breaking the skin. No need to worry about the out dial now, off to the hospital.

End result, one broken finger (middle), one dislocation (index), 3 sitches, 3 days off, one new hand location for behind the plate.

I took a bat to the mask on Friday night. Was extremely glad I hadn't removed my mask on the hit ball, yet. That has been the worst so far. Other than that, just "normal" shots. I am new to the club and have taken a couple on the chin. They didn't seem to hurt as bad as I thought they would.

I can now officially say I've taken my hardest shot to the shins..........during a slow pitch game........with a bat. Damn adults, when will they ever grow up?

Just the other day, took 5 foul balls and a bat to the mask...had a BAD headache after the game...thankfully, no concussion symptoms. My other bad one was a foul ball to the left forearm. Had the laces imprinted, and my arm swelled up during the same at bat.

Two years ago I did a 9/20 game, told my partner, a coach, that the steal at third was his. Evidently that didn't sink in so I have to do a quick bailout to cover third. Batter steps back completely oblivious to the game around him and takes a practice swing right to my cup.

Early last season Im doing a college game took a foul tip from an inside fastball off the bat, off the tip of the glove straight into the thraot guard. I swelled up and could not finish the game, at least we were working a 3 man crew and one of my partners put on his gear and finished the game. i went to the hospital. that was the hardest ( 90 mph + ) worst ( throat ) and scariest ( hospital ) all in one for me.

OK - I've been out for the count the last few days, so this is my frist chance to respond to ukce1861 & carolinablue, who are obviously not interested in learning &/or using the entire language.

thong:noun

1. a strip of material, esp. of leather or hide, used to fasten or secure something

Consider yourself edified (look it up!)
