i wanted to start a thread to see how long some of the games are..... This should be fun..LOL So i will start..

Yesterday DII game... 9 inn.... 22-23 with the home getting doubled off on a rundown between 3rd and HP, and the BR running all the way to 3rd...I was BU, once the rundown started, I came over to cover my half, well that kid gets tagged right away, then they throw to 3rd to get the runner trying to sneak in, the tag was high on the arm/shoulder I probably could have safed him, but after a 4 hour and 17 min game, I called him out...LOL

So beat a 4 hour 17 min 9 inn game.....LOL there was no pitching at all...here is the box score...

Hey I want to high school with one of those guys.

But four hours.... thats just wrong.

I have been lucky. I had a tournament game go a little over three hours. We played 4 innings of California Tie Breaker. But thats it.

1hr 30 minutes, quick game and strikes thrown. Kids will adjust to the outdoors after being locked up all winter. Good and easy game to call for the blues and got to see some pitches.

Last year, I did a JV game between two of the worst teams in the area... BY MYSELF. We started early, about 4pm. I left there at 7:30. I couldn't even tell you the final score.

I do remember in the 5th inning, the home team was down 18 runs. My thought was, "Just don't score 9 runs." They did.

Why the difference in game times? Did they each find a pitcher or was your game management that much better?

Oh no, the pitchers were much better both guys went the distance...I had the plate in the sec game so game management really isnt the issue in the 1st game... those guys could throw a strike if they were 3 feet away...

I had a Legion last summer top of the seventh visitors are ahead by a bunch. We just needed three and a handshake, well....

The home team decided to play baseball in the bottom of the 7th and tied it. Each following inning both teams would score keeping it tied. Home team ran out of gas in the 12th and couldn't match the run scored by the visitors.

This one just went under 4 hours.

I did a hs (V) scrimmage on Monday. Free subs, but other than that normal. 2-1 final in 1:35. We started a little early because of the threat of serious rain. It rained on and off during the game. I don't think anybody walked, but there were 4 HBP (I figured because of the wet ball). Handful of strikeouts and at least 3 pitchers from both teams.

If it were regular season this would have been a big game for me & my partner. The home coach is the winningest coach in NJ history, with quite a reputation. No problems.

Last season (first week), JV game, mid 30's, 30 mph wind (Fah-r-e-a-k-i-n Cold), 19-18, 3:45. I was BU, wished I had the dish to be able to wear more stuff. Close play at the plate to end the game, may have caused us to go to extra innings, losing HC comes to me and said ""screw it, let's get out of here".

Last year,

I was BU for a freshman game that lasted 4 and a half hours. The final score in 6 innings was 37 to 25. The visiting team won finally. We had one half inning last a complete hour. Home team actually pulled within 8 runs in the fourth.

Funniest thing about the game. Home team has two outs and batter drills a ball to CF fence. I am thinking an easy stand-up double. The kid rounds second and for some reason starts to 3rd, and missteps. I am ahead of him at set up at the cutout. The CF'er throws a rope right to 3rd and it is about two feet off the ground while caught. The runner slides into the tag and I bang him out. The HC says "Blue, can you get help? There is no force at third."

I told him that the runner was tagged on the shin and he was tagged before reaching the base. At post game, I told my partner what was said. He laughed and said the on deck batter even said he was out while throwing down his bat, knowing the game was over.

Around here, there are usually 4 games going on, jv & v bb and jv & v sb.

I was working the jv sb game. It went so long that the v sb AND both bb games were done before we finished. I couldn't stretch the zone enough. Final score was something like 28 - 7 in 5. I think it was over 3 hours for a sb game!

About ten years ago I was working the plate on a Pony city championship game. We get to the seventh, tie game, R2 and a hard grouder through the middle. R2 should score easily on the play except my knucklehead U2 insisted on standing sideways to the plate and got hit. In the fourteenth the home team said they were out of pitching and quit. Four hours for a fourteen inning game that should have been done in seven.
