I have not tried them, but unless you are on a tight budget and cannot afford a second pair of plain black shoes, or even shoes appropriate for calling some games, I would definitely go ahead and get a pair of the Reebok, New Balance, or even another paid of shoes that are strictly plate shoes. I don't know how comfortable the GD-12 would be when you remove the plate and call the bases. Just my opinion I guess. Love to hear what you other guys think.

The New Balance and Reebok respectfully are only about $10 more than what you are looking at paying for the GD-12. Try Jim at www.ump-attire.com

Has any one tried the GD-12? I just wish plate shoes weren't se expensive.

3N2 will have a new plate shoe out next week.

$89.99

Very similar to the Raction Base Shoe.

It will be called Reaction Plate Shoe...lol

I am getting mine as soon as they are delivered to 3N2.

I bought the new all black reeboks that just came out, and, while they have yet to see game action, I must say that they are amazingly comfortable.

When they make them in mid-cuts I'll place my order. So far they've seen responsive to customer requests. We'll see.

They are usually worth about 10,000 pennies at least...:banghead:

Yes they are worth it.

Like car insurance. You pay for it, yet hope you never have to use it.

Protect those feet. A lot of body parts can be sore and hurting and you can still function. A foot or toe injury affects your mobility and hurts like hell.

Right now there's a pair of Spot-Bilt on ebay right now for $30.00 - new, in the box. OK, so the sizes are weird... 7, 7.5 and 14.

There's also a pair of NB450s (size 8.5) at opening bid of $30.

Sure, these may not work for you, but the point is there are deals to be had out there if you look for them.

Last year I picked up a second pair of NB450s for $65, and yes, they were new.

Check Ebay - often. Stuff is placed on their all the time. The 2nd pair of NBs I got were found on a retailer's website.

If you can't afford to buy at the high prices, shop around for some lesser-known brands. When it comes to plate shoes, it's better to have some protection at a lower price than trying to get by and wearing base shoes behind the plate. If you injure your toes or foot, you won't have to worry about umpiring ANY games after that.

i can attest to the toe injury.

no matter which plate shoe you decide on make darn sure it is STEEL toed not hard plastic, fiberglass or some other material. my first pair were ssk brand, so light and comfortable but dangerous because the toe box was fiberglass reinforced plastic.

i found out the hard way what a foul ball can and will do to the toe of the shoe, almost had to have surgery to remove a bone in my big toe. hurt like hell for weeks!

Thank you so much for your post.

I was waiting for 3N2 to release their new Reaction Plate Shoe in a few days.

I have the Reaction Base Shoe and love them.

Ump-Attire now has it on their sight and I made a double check of the specs.

They use carbon fiber....Oh Oh.:question1:

Needless to say, I also wanted Steel Toe.

So I just ordered a pair of Reebok Field Magistrate (Black) for S.O.S Sports.

Thanks for saving my toes and feet.

I used them for four seasons when I started my umpiring, living in Australia. I was getting paid next to nothing for games at the time, and it was hard getting gear shipped from the States, so I went with the one-pair-fits-all option.

When the shield is out, they can feel a little awkward, and they are a little like wearing platform shoes. But I made do at the time.

Now? New Balance 450s for the plate, and NB 680s on the bases.

Now if I had size 7.5 or size 15 feet I'd be in great shape. However I wear size 11 like most other men.

The good news is that I got myself a pair of NB 450's today.:a500posts:

Looks like I got lucky when I got mine. Plenty of sizes then. Sorry.
