Stop play by calling 'Time'

In NCAA, he can just stand there.

Not true...

NCAA Rule: 8-2-d(2)

If the batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball and the pitch is out of the strike zone, the pitch shall be called a ball. The ball is dead, no runners may advance and the batter is not awarded first base unless the pitch is ball four.

I see someone forgot to put the rest of the rule in there...LOL

There are many that say that NOT moving is an attempt to avoid the pitch.

Generally give the base unless it is blatant that the Batter tried to get hit.

Not moving is an attempt? No.

We all agree that if he does most any movement he gets a base. We also agree that if he goes after the pitch then he doesn't. If he watches it hit him he stays, period. There is no attempt and that is contrary to the rule.

I have heard the whole speel about the pitcher has no right to be in the box so the batter gets a base. OK, NCAA bought it and changed their rule, fine, their marbles. However, other codes make no such allowance so we need to use the rules for the game we are playing. I have been on the short end of this argument for years so I am used to it. Call me Don Quixote tilting at windmills but I don't believe I am.

In this thread I have asked about a batter challenging a pitcher inside and getting hit in the box. Does he get first? No one has answered that question.

My opinion, and mine only, if the batter gets hit in the box and doesn't cause himself to get hit, he goes to first. ALWAYS!

We just discussed this last night at a meeting and it was put that if the batter cant move then he gets first if he can move but chooses not to to get hit then he doesnt get first. I thought it was a helpful way of thinking of this even though there might be circumstances where it doesnt apply.
