Hi kids,

I recently purchased a pair of NB 450 plate shoes, and now there comes another problem. (anybody ever read "If you give a mouse a cookie"?)

The bottom "corners" of my current shin guards, rather than sitting over the top of the shoe have a tendency to sit inside the top of the shoe and rub annoyingly on the inside of my ankle. :BD:

Any suggestions as far as replacements are greatly appreciated. ty

seriously. This is a personal choice. I have friends who wear Honig's and +POS. I wear the Wilson DaviShins and did wear the Wilson Gerry Davis. I like the fit of the DaviShins and I wear the NB450 shoes for the past 3 seasons. The DaviShins are a tighter fit on the calf than the Gerry Davis but I had no problem with either. I just "had" to buy at least one piece of new equipment this year and these shinguards caught my eye at the Atlanta NCAA Clinic.

My two cents, your mileage may vary.....

Good luck in whatever you choose.

Tye.

I wear Easton Stealth shin guards and just cut the bottom flap off. Yes a tad heavier, but they provide great ankle flaps to avoid going inside the MB450s. I also took one of the corner of the toe on the MBs and it hurt like a son of a gun.. But I love the MBs and the Stealth catcher shin guards.

I have the WV triple knee, and they don't "wing out" like my old diamond leg guards did. If you don't like the triple knee, you can go with the wilson charcoals, they are the same at the bottom as the triple knee. But neverthless, they will both wrap around the outside ankles of the NB's, and strap will hold them in place.

the "El Cheapo" All-star Brand, LG15DN. Got them when i first started 12 yrs ago. Haven't had any problems until now. :smachhead:

Well, you're now wearing a pair of the best plate shoes around.... I think you know what happens next, right?

Not that I'm pushing one product or another, but I wear the WV triple knee guards, and they fit like a dream with the 450 shoe. That is, AFTER that silly plate is removed from the bottom of them.

I don't know about those, but I have the Diamond iX3 shin guards. You can get them for about $52 on Between the Lines' website. They are triple knee, and they have the removable toe flap thing. I wear them with NB 450s and they fit really well and are very comfortable. I would recommend them.

the gerry davis shin guards are very comfortable and light, but if you work the scissors they will creep around and bunch up around the ankles. other than that i love them.

I wear the WV triple knee as well with my 450s They are comfortable and the lining makes them feel not as hot in warmer weather. I would recommend them.

Okay for those of you that care  and those of you that don't. :banghead: I bit the bullet and ordered the WV triple knee this evening. (Hey they were on sale too) Should be here by Wednesday (i hope) for a tournament we are having this weekend. I would think these suckers will last me the rest of my umpiring career; however long or short that is. Thanks for all your input. ty

Here is where I open myself to abuse.

I use UmpShins and they work great. They are very lightweight. I have used them for 3 years from 13u to college summer ball and adult ball. I have no complaint with them.

I had a pair of full size shin guards that my brother gave me and they were dented by a freshman fastball that bounced past the catcher. I've taken all types of pitches and foul balls off my umpshins and they have stood up to the test.

Shin guards are the only piece of equipment I think you can possibly skimp on a bit. I have the WV Gold, but got them second hand for $30 so I couldn't resist. I also had some basic level +POS when I first started which were just fine.

Ty you won't be disappointed, and they should last you quite a while.

:agasp_: Hahahahahaha, look at the dork with the UmpShins, hahahahaha.

Just kidding, Larry. If it works for you, who cares what other people think.

To get back to the original question, I like the WV shins. They fit well and protect well, but you really need to make sure to get some compression pants. They keep you cool, and help with any rubbing that occurs from the pads, or with my the strap-ends.

Dude, you must be doing it wrong.

My two cents. Your mileage may vary and obviously does. (grin)
