toss two coaches from same team in LL minors
gixxershane replied to gixxershane's topic in Ejections
Well, I got the call today to ump the second and final game for the championship between these two teams, tonight! :a100posts: -
this is why I do it.. I, so far, have only done LL majors and minors..
-
Most likely followed by offensive coach/manager EJ :givebeer:
-
I don't really have any input on thoes items. But if your funds are tight, I would serch craigs list, ebay, and any 2nd time around sports store for equipment afyer the season ends. Usually you can get some great deals.

R3 goes back to 3rd/no run scores on offinsive interfierence??

LL rule 5.09 © illegal pitch is under dead ball so I would call it as soon as it happens. I guess it would depend on what rule set you are going by. Edit: Rule 8.05 (k) in the note part contrdicts that other rule saying if a play follows the illegal pitch the offensive manager can decied to keep the play, or the illegal pitch (ball). And if the batter reaches first, and every runner advances one base, play should proceed without reference to illegal pitch. Then is a balk a dead ball under 5.09 ©??? So confusing
-
I would say not. I would almost consider that an obstruction situation for the runner to stay on 2nd. It doesn't say a runner has to vacate a base so the fielder can make a play. Only mentions that if the runner is, we'll, um, running. No? That's how I would rule it, but then again I'm only a rookie compaired to you guys :smachhead:

Ya can't cure stupid!!! Lol

When doing the minors I usually hold up my hand for time out when the batter is getting in the box for safty reasons and to make sure I'm set before the pitcher decides he will throw the ball as soon as the batter gets in the box. You could probably use the whole rule 9.01 © for this lol. The coach I threw out on monday had an issue with that because his pitcher would start the wind up as the batter got in the box, it was my way of controling the tempo in the beginning of that game Anything higher than 12 years old should know to call time if before they step in the batters box to set up if they need the time. If not, the ball is live and in play, and your fair game when you step in the box (unless he asks for time to get stet) I could be way off, I'd like to see other opinions on this one

Wow, not sure about the pink shirts specifically made for umpiring, you might need to get an ordinary polo shirt. What about pink wrist sweat bands, I saw the MLB umps do that along with putting the Breast cancer ribbon on the front lapel of the umpire shirt?

I thoght (going by LL rules) that on batter interfierence, with less than two outs, you call the runner out closes to home, and with two outs it puts the batter out for the interfierence?? Or is this just how LL does it and it is different for some of the other rule books? EDIT: never mind its only when R3 is trying to score, that batter int. Puts the runner out for BI with less than 2 outs. END EDIT. Umpires in youth sports should have athority to toss spectators, I know you can as a USA hockey reff. Nice job on the EJ's, I learned earlier in the week to stop giving the benifit of the doubt to coaches, and to stop being a nice guy. Every day is a learning experience :smachhead:

toss two coaches from same team in LL minors

I agree with you 100%. I'm still trying to refine my approach to EJ, I guess I don't want to be labeled the ump that throws guys out at the drop of a hat, but I guess I shouldn't care so much about that. Its a work in progress :wow: -
toss two coaches from same team in LL minors

I have changed my approach to EJ after reading this site and after last night. I don't want to go around tossing people out of LL games, but gees, they didn't leave me much choice last night. I gave them every (too many) opritunities to stay in the game. The Majors we have 2 umps on the field all season and playoffs. The minors, they had high school kids doing the games and the league didn't want them to do the playoff so they asked if we would do them, and we agreed. Might think twice next year lol. Good thing I have thick skin. My question is, what are these coaches teaching their players by acting like this??? I mean your not coaching HS or the pros here it is 10U. WTF! -
This is the in house championship game for the LL minors, and I have to toss two coaches from the same team!!! This is a double elimination playoff. I umped the first game between these two teams (green team beat the yellow team). Neither team lost again in the playoffs, so if the yellow team wins, they need to play one more game. First inning the yellow team scores 2 runs. 3rd inning, yellow team is batting, with R1. Runner steals second and the throw is close, but the BR slides under the tag. Now mind you I'm the only ump, and I get out from behind the plate and run around to make the calls as needed. Next batter the R2 steals 3rd, the catcher threw the ball down and F5 has the ball when the runner is half way, I'm ready to call the kid out.F5 stands at the base waiting for the BR,I'm ready to call him out, and what happens??? F5 holds the tag 3 feet off the ground, and BR slides in under the tag "safe" I call. DC goes nuts, starts yelling and saying the game is rigged. "You should be wearing a yellow jersey ump" he yells from the doug out I should have tossed him there but I gave him a chance and just held up my hand and firmly said "that's enough coach" So as the game goes on I can hear him mumble the game is fixed. They end up scoring 1 run to make it a 2-1 game (yellow team winning) Bottom of the 5th green team is batting. They have the tallest kid on their team batting (probably 5'4" to 5'5" tall). The shortest kid for the defending team is catching. A pitch comes in at the top of his strike zone, catcher stands up to catch the ball, I call it a strike. Kid ends up striking out swinging. 3rd base coach comes over after that half of the inning asking how that was a strike. Now mind you I have had enough from this bench. I ask "are you the manager?" "Oh, no, I just want to know where you where calling that" he said really calmly. So I give in and try to explain the size difference between the players. That's not the answer he wanted so he kept at it. At the end he put his arm across his chest where the letters would be and said "the ball was right here!!!" "And that's a strike coach" I replied as he is walking away he says 1ith his back to me facing the crowd " your horrible" I replied " your gone coach" He blows up saying " your throwing me out for asking a question, I didn't say anything". I'm all done explaining my self at this point and told him to leave. Now the manager blows up yelling "why did you throw him out? He didn't say anything, he just asked a question!" And he keeps jawing and than he also says I'm horrible, and "you where a replacement because they couldn't get the other ump" I say " your gone too coach" My first two ejections in two years, come in one situation. after the game,The lady in the concession stands, who is at every game, said to me "wow, you never throw anyone out, I'm surprised you didn't do it sooner. I only had two or three fans at the end of the game try to talk smack, but every other fan (from both sides) congratulated me on a job well done, and the consensus was "I'm surprised you didn't toss them sooner" lol. Me too Yellow team won, forcing another game, that the two coaches are not allowed to go to now :wow:

Hahahahaha That's a good one!

Does an illegal pitch/balk count as a pitch
gixxershane replied to carolinablue's topic in Youth Recreation Ball
I would say no because of the wording in the pitch count section "pitches delivered" If you do count them in illegal pitch situation, do you count the strikes called on a batter for not taking his/her place in the box when said? -
I will take free gear!!!;)

That is the article that UIC posted a link to from this awesome website ;)

Where is this instant replay you speak of??? I have a Macgregor cp that I'm gonna modify in the sternum area by taking the hard shell off of football or hockey shoulder pads and sew it into the chest area. I'm happy with the cp but want to put something in the chest area to disburse the energy of impact over more surface area so this is my idea. Lol

Atlantas pitcher, Jurrjens, balked 2 times in the game with the Red Sox.... wow what good game!!:D

Welcome to the boards!!! :D -
can you put a price on saving your self from heat stroke??? If your core body temp won't rise more than 2 degrees, when you work the plate in 100+ degrees days, what is that worth to ya?? How about working a double header in thoes temps??? This could be just as important as the West Vest!! I just relayed the info :D

Looking for the Gerry Davis Stance Article
gixxershane replied to cstenz's topic in Umpire Mechanics
Box (Gerry Davis) stance = Horse stance, minus the hand position The horse stance is a little more technical than this as far as foot position and where your knees are in relation to your feet, but that isn't too important in the baseball world, just the dojo :D -
