  1. I was dealing with an 11 year old tournament this weekend, a lot of teams this was their first time throwing over. Needless to say I called one balk the entire weekend and instead opted to inform the coach what the kids where doing wrong.
  2. He actually tried to stay but I told him I'd stop the game, and his team would forfeit if I turned back around and he was still here.:smachhead:
  3. OK here is what happened. Pitcher throws pitch down the plate, r2 heads for third, little jimmy decides to step out of the batters box to try and get out of the way,in doing so he interferes. I call time BR out and send r2 back to second. Coach comes out in a very classy way to try and discuss, after discussing it and he realizes I am not going to change my mind he starts to yell. On top of this I got Mr. Henry the High School coach (some random parent) telling me how he is a high school coach and that I am wrong. As you probably have already figured I threw that Jabrony out right there. The coach on the other hand I let slide because he was a class act all through out the tournament. I soon regretted this as he started to cry about everything. I let him cry about one thing and after the second time, I walked over and tossed him. After he was gone the game went smoothly and the said team even ended up winning. Lesson learned do not be a nice guy, it will get you no where.
  4. Since when did they change the rule book to say a tie goes to a runner? This is out of the MLB rulebook mind you 7.08(e) He fails to reach the next base before a fielder tags him or the base, after he has been forced to advance by reason of the batter becoming a runner. I hate when coaches yell this, first off I have never had a situation in my head where I stopped and said OMFG its a tie! I have always had some kind of idea of what it was in my head. Secondly the rule book does not say that. Do not give me the whole well in the mlb the umpires....bull crap I have watched games where guys were safe by two steps (literally) and still called out. /end rant :smachhead:

    Grabbing a kid

nvm did not see the problem ironed itself out.
  6. Ok I had a situation. Im not the best at this but ill do my best. There is a runner on second, Batter hits the ball to shortstop. The shortstop fumbles with the ball and then throws over to first. First basemen is on top of the base and in the baseline. The ball is about five feet from the first basemen's glove, when BR slows down. I call obstruction, gave the kid first and made R2 stay on third because in my opinion he would not of made it home. Although the ball is in the first basemen's surrounding area there was no reason for him to be in the baseline. The ball was coming from the SS and did not force him to be in the baseline he was there on his own free will. Did I get the call right? This is little league rules BTW.
  7. Excellent call I just seen on the news a couple days ago of a kid playing baseball and getting struck. The Ump called the game, parent let the kid stay on the field.....because you know parents KNOW EVERYTHING.
  8. I had some balk situations today that I was unsure of. I am gonna go do some research on Google but if anyone knows some good ones a link would greatly be appreciated.
  9. I do not get what you are trying to say? What is wrong with a catcher framing the pitch? Do you mean he catches the ball and moves it in the SZ(I hate when catchers do this), or do you mean when he catches it and just holds it in the spot. I consider framing a pitch holding it in place. If that is the case, which rarely it is, it just helps you out because it makes selling your strikes that much easier. :D
  10. I was rifling through the OBR for this one and Rule 6.05(h) would agree with Mr.Ump however if that bat is dropped in fair territory and the ball rolls and hits the bat. It is considered a live ball unless the PU feels there was intention to interfere. Gotta love how tricky baseball can be.
  11. Look at it like this, r3 is coming home catcher is blocking the plate r3 unintentionally runs into F2, while F2 does not have the ball nor is it in the immediate area of play. You would obviously have obstruction on F2 but if R3 makes it home then their is no obstruction. This is why like I said before it seems to be a HTBT situation. An umpire after all can not look everywhere at once.
  12. When I said lenient I meant about the ejection part.
  13. This is a very good and tricky question. Im curious to see what the answer to this is gonna be. It seems logical to say it would be foul, as the BR and bat are still in the batter box. Like you said however what do you do when it hits the bat a second time while it is in the air.
  14. The Dawkins reference refers to him coming down and trucking the catcher. If he comes running down the line and just runs into the catcher I dont see that as being MC. There is a difference between running into someone who is in your way and maliciously running into them.
  15. So i am guessing you need to judge by the line. What if R3 is on the foul side of the box. I am guessing its foul?
