I found this post on "Another winner from Warren" interesting and have nominated it accordingly for "Post Of The Month August, 2009"

I was working with a guy who umpired the local rec league in tulsa, ok. Almost every day after he would work a game he came up and asked me what i thought about this call or situation. After setting him straight for a couple of years i finally decided to "get paid" for my knowledge of the game. He let me know when they were having a clinic and i haven't looked back since. That was in 2000, now i have moved up through the ranks and am working juco, D2 & D3. Only thing i've found wrong with this avocation is that i didn't start early enough.

brian, he's talking about the pec pads. JamesC, everything will wear in even those pads. it takes time, you probaly won't have it fully broken in by spring. mine took almost 2 years, but i did notice after just a few months the shoulder pads had given up some and i was able to lift my arms higher.

Brian the t-shirt guy?? Does he still think he is god of umpires around there? lol
-
my assoc. does juco thru d1 non-conf and we have to take the test, just so the assignor knows he's putting a good product out on the field.
-
i would point inside the lines myself.

you have to work it. make it fit your body. i have had my platinum for 3 years and i still work it everytime i put it on. the way it lays in my bag it tries to go back flat from side to side, so when i put it on i will pinch the sides together. top to bottom it fits great. i had to loosen the top "y" straps and cinch up the bottom of the "y" to make it quit sliding down on me. hope this helps.

i've been using this method for 4 or 5 years. didn't know anything about it being called the gerry davis stance until a few years ago. all i know is i found a plate stance that allowed me to lock in no matter how big or small my catchers are, and as a huge plus my legs and back don't hurt after my game. Brian could you email me a copy of this please?
-
NO SIR!! give me cooler temps anytime! i can always add another layer if needed, but when its HOT you can only take off so many layers before you go to jail.
-
the gerry davis shin guards are very comfortable and light, but if you work the scissors they will creep around and bunch up around the ankles. other than that i love them.

as a former k1-oholic i have to agree with bt_blue. the protection is far more superior in a wv than a k1. BTW the padding WILL break down eventually and you WILL feel every shot you take in a k1.

anybody a region 14 baseball umpire for njcaa and how do you become one

last time i knew, matt stellges down at honig's southwest was one of the assignors for juco in north east texas. give him a call and he will be able to point you in the right direction. -
worked with a guy today who downgraded from a plat to a k1. i told him he was silly to do that.
