  1. It finally happened...Had the egregious bat flip that was so easy to run the player on...12U travel 50/70 diamond. Kid was very tall/lanky...at least 6 feet tall and easily 170 or so...Kid already had a HR in game one. Top 2 of game 2 and he comes to the plate and absolutely smokes one to center. I take off the mask, watch the ball sail over the fence by a good 50 feet and signal HR. As I'm stepping out about even with the plate and slightly up the 1B line I glance towards 1B to get the touch and I see the BR about 50 feet up the line, finishing his bat toss one handed back towards home plate. If I would have kept walking out towards the mound it would have easily hit me. Bat had to be a good 10-15 feet in the air, spinning end over end. Bat lands about 3-4 feet in front of home plate. I watched him touch them all, team is out celebrating and I calmly walk over to the 3rd base coaches box, where the Head Coach is and tell him number 22 is ejected for the bat flip/unsportsmanlike conduct...I'm actually surprised this is the first one I've had...
  2. USAF 1993-2003.
  3. It's not just Bush League, it's the whole forest...Definitely not OBS. "That's Nothing", big safe sign, then call the runner out.
  4. The presser was hilarious...he made himself look even more foolish.
  5. The Coastal coach's behavior was no different than that of a misinformed travel ball coach...and it needs to be better, first game of the year, or the last. He ran himself.
  6. Cash game means paid at the plate, in full, for the entire crew, before a pitch is thrown. In cash...no checks, no Venmo, no other apps. The fee is what is shown in email, text, or assignment system from our assigner, not what you think was said, Coach... No pay, at the correct amount...no game to start. It's pretty simple.
  7. I haven't called any this year, and only 4 the previous season (78 games).
  8. Our association works on the basic principles of who had what the previous time you were partnered. Then other factors, as mentioned in other posts, are considered.
  9. Obviously, I need to up my game. I've never been "the worst umpire ever", only just "Terrible" or "Horrible". Although I might have one no one else has...after ejecting a 14u runner for MC for jump sliding and continuing with a rolling body block on F4 on a steal attempt, he stated, "C'mon Blue, are you delusional? You must be on LSD!"
  10. For lower age games, say 11/12u and below, my answer is "the strike zone will be age appropriate."

    LL Coaches

So does ours and most of the games are a complete sh@$show.
  12. Our association trains us to keep the ball in play as much as possible. I can't stand to see a player dive back on a routine pickoff attempt and that free hand starts waiving frantically asking for time before you can even signal safe. Unless you are injured or need to tie a shoe, I'm generally not granting time in the field. Got dirt down your uni? Walk it back up and shake it out while standing on the bag. Same for catchers calling 1st-3rd defenses, no time. One thing that grinds my gears is the 12/13 year old that is armored up like a young knight at the plate, legs out a double, then waits until the last second to call time to take off the elbow guard, leg guard, wrist guard and put on the oven mitt. You just ran 140/180 feet with it on...some of it is just fluff to look cool. My son took pitches in consecutive tournament games when he was 12u off the elbow. He wore an elbow guard until it healed, then he stopped wearing it. This year in high school practice (Junior) he fouled one off his shin with the pitching machine set at 90, I asked him if he wanted a leg guard while it healed, he said it wasn't necessary. When I coached and had 1st, I introduced my players to their back pockets, because that's where your nasty batting gloves go when you get to first...I'm not holding them for you.
  13. If he saw it, it wasn't concealed 🙂...LL rules state no firearms or ammo on the field. Don't know about any other leagues/codes.
  14. 50 with 13 more scheduled by the second week of July.
  15. LL Majors. Top 4. None on, one out. Rung up the batter on a called third strike pretty much right down the middle, 2-2 count. Each called strike the batter showed visible frustration...right after the 3rd strike he turned out of the batters box and slammed his bat two-handed into the ground, like he was chopping wood with an axe. Walked into the dugout and threw his bat and helmet. I walked down the 3rd base line to the HC and told him #26 is ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct, calm and no drama from HC...he told Joey to pack up his gear and go sit with his parents, he was done. No screaming parents, no waiting to confront me after the game...had to say I was a bit surprised by that. Figured it would be worse.
  16. I use Flat Billed hats worn by a late 20s to early 40s coach as a reliable "DB" indicator. Combined with a pair of over knee length athletic shorts and white Oakleys, you know exactly what you're dealing with.

    Wow

"Mature and professional" wasn't displayed by the Coach in the video. You're using conjecture for things that didn't happen in the video. All I'm saying is based on the video, good ejection, but not going to get into the forfeit countdown without more background/context.

    Wow

"Coach, the strike zone is defined by the rulebook. I had that last pitch up/down/out/in/a strike, Ok, let's play."

    Wow

Overall...this needs to happen more often. Maybe, if it happens with some regularity, parents and coaches may finally start to get it. Definitely not going to judge the nuances of the video based on that short clip. Maybe there is history with that coach, maybe the assignor have instructions to limit time to end the game to 15 seconds. Who knows. Bottom line is "Coach" arguing balls and strikes and crossed the line. Nothing worse than a 12u "Coach" who acts like they're God's Gift To Baseball. To echo comments I've seen here: There aren't enough ejections in youth baseball, period.
  21. This Umpire is doing all those things you highlight above...signaling the batter out...and repeating, pointing and signaling the batter is out...2,3,4 or five times...sometimes little Tommy behind the plate still sees the Red Mist and just hears Coach Testerone...or Mommy screaming and that BRWIAtRB is doing the same in his own world.
  22. I agree with @beerguy55sentiments...if the defense is responsible, the offense should be also and a lower level of culpability for Interference should come into play, especially when two of three coaches are screaming RUN, RUN, RUN...because isn't that something that " interferes with, obstructs, impedes, hinders, or confuses any fielder attempting to make a play"? I've had a couple 11u/12u coaches tell their kids "Just run on ANY" uncaught third strike. I'll usually circle back with the coach and ask them if it wouldn't be better to properly teach the players the rule, and it can benefit them even more defensively by ignoring the unexpected runner (who's out anyway) and try to get the other potential outs if there is,a runner on first of first and second and they try to advance...some get it, some don't. Either way, it's an amazingly misunderstood rule at all levels.
  23. I'll take a set of the Belgard pads. Please let me know how much total with shipping to 20689 Zip. Thanks
  24. All-Star S7 (FM4000) has a flatter, angular profile and has a good field of view. Another vote for the Adidas Icon also. https://www.all-starsports.com/fm4000ump-black.html
