  1. Was this a one day sale? I went on tonight because I have my NCAA certificate from Honig's and my NASO discount but they're $295. Did I miss it?
  2. Go to any site that sells football shoulder pads such as www.footballshoulderpads.com. It's under accessories. The CP hooks are the exact same T-hooks that are used to fasten shoulder pads. $4.49 for a pair.
  3. I've used for the last four years Armor All tire shine foam. Because tires are made of rubber just like the soles of our shoes. Wash your shoes off with your hose if dirt or clay are caked on or don't if they're just dusty and apply. It works great. Especially getting red clay back to white again. I've heard some complaints that it attracts dirt but let's face it, after an inning or two your shoes are more than likely dirty anyway no matter what you're using.
  4. Congrats! Show up early, go wherever they want you to without complaint and attend as many camps and clinics as you can because it only makes you better. Watch games on your off days in your area and see how the other guys communicate, rotate and then don't be afraid to introduce yourself after and ask a few questions. I've found most guys are receptive and glad to help out. New rule book this year so get one early and a 2013 CCA manual because for most it's the mechanics' bible. Most importantly... Good Luck and HAVE FUN!
  5. This is a little off topic but will the TWs fit a low profile Wilson Ti mask? My doeskins are awful stiff and cold in below 55 weather. Thanks.
  6. I don't use Ump-Attire's guidlines as gospel but rather as an informed opinion. I paid attention to the level because I don't do "pros" but I do anywhere from D-1 to youth baseball and I don't have a "pro" catcher in front of me where I might get away with a "charcoal" or a "champion" rare "money shot" but liable to get hit more often at the lower levels and want the highest rated protection available.
  7. I have both the Gold and a Platinum and love both of them. My gold is fitted with the Delta Flex and my Platinum will be this year. I think what stands out is that the hottest new CPs that everyone went gaga over the last two years, the system 7 and the ultimate are no where to be found on the chart (which is fantastic by the way, thank you). Even if you look on Ump-Attire's website they don't even list the "7" on the level for collegiate and professional protection. To me that was another heads up when I considered the "7" last year. I'm glad I kept my senses and stayed with the tried and true.
  8. I like the new penalties for unsportsmanlike and abuse but I can see difficulties without video aids in the foul to fair or vice versa. In 2 and 3 man crews I think it will be very difficult because all but one on a fair/foul are rotating on contact with only one set of eyes responsible for that particular fair/foul area. Just my thoughts.

    NCAA Clinics

Registration is now open for the NCAA clinics on the Central Hub website on Arbiter Sports.

    NCAA Clinics

I noticed they have the regional clinics listed on Arbiter and the hotel rates for each one but I was wondering when signups were starting. I didn't make last years but with a new rule book in 2013 I thought it would be a good idea. I already made a reservation so I could snag a king size bed before they were gone. Gotta plan ahead...
  11. I apologize to any who made the early purchase and believe that I meant they were suckers. Maybe I should choose my quotes more carefully. But say you put money down on the latest, greatest car/truck/motorcycle and it wasn't delivered on time. How long would you wait. Remember how everyone jumped on the Delorian and it turned out to be a piece of crap? I'm just sayin'... Why sell it when you're not getting the original one advertised as in the Evans' video which they later called a prototype because they even realized it lacked a lot? It seems fairly obvious that they're still perfecting it, not shipping problems. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's any good.
  12. I've been following this thread for a while and I've figured out a way how to retire early. Next June I'm going to invent the most outlandish, unproven chest protector that I can think of with a HUGE price tag stating that you better buy it now because the price will double, then not deliver it after grabbing your hard earned money and see how many jump on the sword. But I'm going to be smarter. I'm going to hire a professional film crew and actors from the WWE because they know how to fake hits and being hit better than all of the videos I've seen so far. Last year the All-Star, this year the Unequal. To me it's obvious that Jim is peddling this because he sees a tremendous drop in his revenue from the fiasco at his school last year. Ya gotta pay the bills I suppose. P.T. Barnum had it right..."there's a sucker born every minute".
  13. I can't believe this is better than a gold or platinum. I have a question though... If this kevlar is better than plastic, why aren't the shoulder caps made of kevlar? They're clearly plastic which is what I want for deflection and spreading of the energy involved with each shot. My platinum and gold will take a chest shot and send it up the line. Ask anyone that's worn a kevlar vest and taken any caliber bullet and they'll tell you that it knocks the wind out of them. Personally not for me.
  14. thanks
  15. I left this out that he had already had at least one pitch thrown to him. He's technically not in the batting order because he's being DHed for so what rule would it be. Illegal sub? There has to be some sort of penalty right? Because now they would be batting 10.
  16. I ran into this last night and I am stumped. I looked at both of my OBR books and I didn't really see an answer to this. I was on the bases with an inexperienced PU but very eager to learn and they were playing with a DH for the pitcher and the pitcher got up to bat after the DH. The opposing coach noticed and called attention to it. He called me in for help and showed me what happened. First he showed me the lineup card that listed the DH and then the starting pitcher after in the seven hole. I wish he had showed it to me before we got started but what's done is done. Here's what I came up with in this unusual scenario and I don't know if I'm right or very wrong. Fortunately it was a meaningless contest. I couldn't see it as batting out of order because he wasn't in the lineup as a hitter but as an illegal substitution. I felt he should be called out and proper batter next to hit. If they wanted to make that legal could he have stayed in the game and batted for the proper batter and then lose the DH and then do a double switch and move the DH for the former proper batter's defensive position? WOW!, I know that's a lot but I didn't know what to do. Any ideas?
  17. So how do you explain when they tell you while you're talking to them on the phone that your size is in stock and we'll send it right out. Then after no updates or follow up emails you call again and they say they're out after telling you they had the item? If it was a simple online order foul up I would understand but I got flat out lied to.
  18. I JUST GOT STUNG! Don't believe the backorder story! I just spoke with a rep at baseball savings and told them how they billed my credit card on the 6th so why is my order still pending? They're response was that they were sold out and not getting anymore and that they had limited sizes to begin with. I said to the rep that I ordered them over the phone and not online and spoke to someone that said they had my size and were shipping them right out. All I got in return is that in 3-5 days my card will be credited and if I want 10% off and free shipping they would do it. I asked why I never got a follow up call or email explaining this and I was told that I should have. I order my girls' softball stuff through them and various other things and I'm done with this company. Before writing this I checked my order status and they still have it as pending. GOOD LUCK...
  19. Thanks NoCal. I just ordered the mids. I've used NB forever because of my 4E foot and now since MLB wears them the price is through the roof. I've always had two pair for back up reasons and on one of my last games the catcher took an unexpected drop step and peeled the toe off of one of my shoes like a banana down to the plastic. I asked Baseball Savings if they ran true to size where the old NBs you had to size up and they said yes. If these fit good, I'll use them this summer and then I'll buy another and save them until next February while doing cage work and break them in for next season. Great price! Thanks again.
  20. I do volleyball too. For clarification purposes the R1 is the up ref and the R2 is the down ref by the net. In this instance you want to be a line judge because you're in a corner and looking straight in. As in baseball sacrifice distance for a GOOD angle. Finally a DH tomorrow where I get to use the new Smitty therma base style jacket that the wife thought was a waste because it was in the upper 70s for the past two weeks. Tomorrow... 39 and windy. Ahhhh, the Northeast!
  21. I just bought a Gold after three years with the Platinum which is now my backup. I've never had a problem with a throat guard getting caught in it and I would never remove a vital piece of equipment. I've been hit there once and will never take it off. Besides you're supposed to track a ball with your eyes not move your head up and down so there shouldn't be any worries about a throat protector getting jammed. If a ball is loose or hit you're supposed to remove your mask anyway.
  22. I got my new harness from Ump-Attire yesterday and just put it on my WV gold. All I can say is WOW! I've used a Platinum for the last three years and wanted the Gold this year. I used it in some cage work and a scrimmage and I kept having to move it and adjust it. I put the new harness on this and it stays nice and high and you don't feel it like the traditional Wilson setups. I just took the plastic buckles off and cut my WV strap in half and threaded it through the existing System 7 buckles. I trimmed off the excess and that's it. You can't even tell it's modified. I'm going to get another for my Platinum which is now my backup.
  23. We wear black for all conference (D-1,D-2,D-3,JUCO) and you can wear navy blue for non-conference but no one does.
  24. I would check into your state's association instead of the local chapter. I know in NY part of our association dues (1 varsity game fee locally) took care of our insurance which also covered us all year including summer/fall ball. Who knows? It could be the same in CA. I don't do HS anymore just college and summer leagues but I used to have NASO insurance and I switched to an ABUA premium membership ($75) which gives you a whole lot more including discounts, liability and game replacement.
