Ejection was warranted, as a new guy myself I tend to let things go a bit further than they should and have gotten chewed out from veterans saying that "by me not tossing these folks, makes their games harder". I can see that point, and am trying to determine what the limit is. In over 100 games done with rec, middle school, high school and USSSA, have only done 1 restricted to the bench for a head coach but have issued several warnings which for me (luckily) has done the trick on stopping the silly stuff. The only real critique is the one you have already acknowledged, telling the kid to "shut up". Good luck with the rest of your games.

Either just Coach or Coach with last name. Sort of new, less than 3years experience. Maybe change as the years go on, but for now that is how I address the Coach.

The reason I had a no call and play-on is by the video showing th BR clearly trying to avoid contact with the fielder and the out being recorded anyway. In my judgement, it was just a baseball play. We can what if all day on different outcomes, but based on the video I would clearly have a no-call and play-on. Just my humble opinion. Beat me up or my opinion up if you must

Had this happen couple of times in middle school ball and JV high school ball, different games. Called time and reset everyone like posted earlier. Can see your point about illegal pitch and calling a ball on batter. Actually had my base guy ask me about the ball not being awarded between innings.

That's the only answer that's guaranteed to be wrong. iirc (and I frequently don't), when this first happened, NCAA said it was OBS. Just like in FED. Then, they came to the conclusion that if ANOTHER fielder could be protected when fielding a batted / deflected ball, that the ORIGINAL fielder could also be protected, as long as the original fielder was in the act of picking up the ball. So, the NCAA ruling now is INT. FED sticks to the more-strictly interpreted rule book language and has OBS. Thanks for the info. Good stuff

Good points. Blue did a good job on a crazy play by keeping his cool.

PU was also lucky to get a tag out instead of having to make a hard to sell out of the base path out call. I would like to see NCAA address whether this is an out of the base path sitch or not. Well said, show them you are working with good hustle and they will stay off your back. Some call from behind the pitcher in the field where as I call from behind the plate. Your choice if association allows one or the other.

Looking at the video and seeing the questions as well as answers, I would have ruled incidental contact, play on. Will check my test to see if I missed that one. Based on what I saw in video, incidental contact.

My association has us 3rd base side for FPSR. No problems so far. But I can see pulled foot at 1st and swipetag could pose a problem. Will pay close attention to that next few games.

Just curious to hear of how some of you guys do the called 3rd strike? I have changed the way I do it a couple of times and have heard both positive and negative feedback on my new way. Use to do the hammer and pull the string, but now I just punch it with my right arm across body with a karatee (sp) sound. Slowed it down a bit before the call to make sure it was caught by cathcer. I looked a bit silly doing it on a uncaught 3rd strike, so learned my lesson and slowed it down a bit.

Not just OBR, but all baseball. This is, in fact, a softball rule. Cool, both of you guys were quite helpful, when I talked with the umpire that made the call he was quite certain and I told him that I disagree but did not argue further. When I spoke with the head trainer with my associaton a few weeks later, he stated what you guys said. Thanks again!!!

I went in 2013. Tore my calf muscle late the 2nd day. Plan on going back, but even just the first 2 days were good. Tore my calf muscle busting in from A slot on hit down right field line, thought it was my achilles. Luckily only in a boot for 6 weeks and did not miss my GHSA season.
