  1. He typed it badly. I read it the same way you read it. But it was not the ASSistant coach he dumped. It was the HC.
  2. At the college level, when a player gets dumped for tobacco, the HC always gets ejected. I would NOT consider that "Ejecting himself".
  3. Understand....but I have never been taught to go to the INSIDE to take a play at the plate. Sometimes an umpire gets lucky to be in the right place to see a play develop.
  4. Please say WHY this is great positioning? had this umpire been 3b line extended he woulda been able to see this play. Nobody can see for sure one way or the other if the runner actually touched the plate. As a matter of fact, it looks like he coulda missed the plate.
  5. Good point kstrunk. However, the case was made that BU saw the contact but was inexperienced to rule on it. Hence why I offered the PU to go talk to him about it. Its still BU's call to make. If BU decides to take the PU's advice, that makes them BOTH look good. If PU just takes the call, it makes everyone wonder why BU didnt make the call himself & that can cause more problems later.
  6. By letting the 3b coach call it of course!
  7. Keep in mind this umpire is giving the count after EVERY pitch!
  8. Clean the plate? Theres a plate in baseball? You actually use the plate for calling "strikes"?
  9. My only question is how to get the batter to hit smokin line drives near the foul lines where tweedle dee & tweedle dumb are standing?
  10. So if your partner the BU doesnt see a pulled foot at 1b and you PU see it, is it ok for you to just call a BR "Safe" all on your own without being asked for help because you saw it? No! Or if theres a missed tag at 2b but your partner doesnt see it, is it ok for to just call the runner "Safe" because you saw it? No! But hey, "General duties & responsibilities" right? WRONG! Your reasoning is very flawed. I bet if you reffed basketball you are the guy who thinks you can make any & every call no matter where you are as long as you can "see it"? Right?
  11. Then nothing Ive ever seen where a BU cant call pitches balls or strikes either. lol You get together with the BU & explain to him what you (PU) saw & ask him to reconsider. If he reconsiders, let HIM make the call. It is HIS call.
  12. This is why you have a PARTNER.
  13. This is why as the PU, U walk/escort down to 1b with the batter who was just hit by the pitch. In my experience, one HBP is not going to cause a fight like this one. Experience suggests this had been brewing since earlier in the game.
  14. That is simply not the PRO rule. He was on his way to 3b when he was obstructed. You cannot protect him for "x" amount of steps. Thats just not correct.
  15. That makes NO SENSE at all. The obstruction occurred AFTER 2b & it looks like he was making his way to 3b. He should have been awarded 3b.
  16. Anybody who says "Ive been umpiring for "X" amount of years"....will get 1 of 2 replies: 1) Only 2 people are getting paid to umpire this game & YOU are NOT one of them.....2) Doesnt mean you have been umpiring CORRECTLY for "X" amount of years.
  17. Are the LL umpires who umpire the LLWS getting one over on them by not getting paid? Look at all the money the LL is making from television, concessions, etc etc etc. Give reasons either way.
  18. Wear the rubber flex belt with holes in it. https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Clothing-Apparel/Belts/M39_Flex-Belt?id=259
  19. Didnt I mention that the base umpire should only take a couple of steps in fair territory to make a call at 1b from the "A" & everybody ridiculed me? This justifies me from earlier.
  20. This is referred to the "AAA" mechanic. It saves wear & tear on ankles & knees. It maybe known now as the "AA" mechanic. Also recognize minor league umpires are not allowed to do the scissors.
  21. a smaller zone is easier to be consistent with. less area of strikes to call. its harder to be consistent with the bigger zones. I never said impossible. its common sense.
  22. Another strong "indication" of a weak partner is usually when a partner works the plate wearing GRAY ball bags.
  23. Sure it does. It definitely looks like an attempt if a batter leaves the bat out over the plate without pulling it back.
  24. What about a batter places the bat over the plate as if to attempt to bunt the ball but never pulls back the bat? Is that an attempt? Not by rule it isnt but it sure looks like an attempt.
  25. Remember, perception is reality.
