I went to a spring training game thursday. Hunter Wendlestedt was behind the plate and he kept trying new mechanics. From box, scissors, point, hammer. Good thing came out of it though, i got his autograph and a baseball from him. And also mark Wegner autograph.

Youll be Fine Bill is a good guy, only thing i can suggest is keep your schedule updated and check your email everyday. It changes all the time. Im a local so he uses me when he can cause he wants people who travel to work. Another thing is try not to tell "war" stories, bill doesnt like that. But other than that you should be fine. Hopefully we get to work together.

OK guys, here one for you. Happened yesterday. Catcher takes the throw and dives toward the plate. He gets the mitt on the ground and the runner slides into the mitt before hitting the plate. The catchers hand got hurt on the play and he immediately pulled his hand out of the mitt. After pulling his hand out of the mitt, the ball rolled out of the mitt and onto the ground. His other hand was never a factor during or after the play. What's the call? Would you have anything different had the hall stayed in the mitt? P.S. I ended up calling him out. help me out guys

Im a college student and i make my schedule so i have an 8am class, which is a nightmare for a college student, and get out at 12-1 so i can have the afternoon/night to umpire. I stay pretty busy because when theres a 3pm game im one of the few people who can work it.

in this situation i got nothing. unless the runner made malicious contact im not going to pick up the crappy end of the stick and call INT. Anyone agree?

I stayed up until 4 am. I am in class right now and super sleepy, bad idea but worth every minute haah

I didnt know what to do so i initially called foul ball but was not 100% sure so i went to get help on how to rule it

Thats what i thought as well but my buddy in the midwest league said it is a foul tip, so did my friend Sean Barber in AAA, but i still dont understand why, since the ball did hit his hand.

This was HS Regional Quarter Final game. Im behind the plate. Top of the 1st, 2nd batter, 2-2 count. Ball comes inside, hits the knob of the bat, hits his hand and the catcher ends up catching the ball ( I know, it seems impossible but thats what happened) i come up and call "Time!" Im processing it at this moment, i call foul and then the home team coach starts coming out and before he reached me i said to him "Tony you can go back, im gonna talk to Ray and Ace" ( my 1st & 3rd base umpires). He said ok and went back to the dugout. So in the end, we ended up calling it a Foul tip and batter was out, as much as i wanted to call it a foul ball, i think we made the right call because the ball did go sharp and directly to the glove from the bat. What do yall have? P.S. The ball did clearly hit the batters hand because his hand was bleeding

My partner called it but he did not signal

Second year doing High School and had first ejection. (Already had my 1st college ejection but thats a different story lol) Bottom of the 7th, bases loaded home team is down 2-1. Batter hits a pop-up to the shortstop, i did not see my base umpire call infield fly, the shortstop drops the ball and R3 advances home, the shortstop throws home but R3 beats it so i call him safe. I call time to clean the plate, and the visting team coach (lets call him Frank) comes up and says "I want to make a dead ball appeal that the runner that just came in didnt tag up to third on the infield fly." I tell him "Frank he dropped the ball" and after i ask my partner if he called infield fly, which he did but did not signal, after telling me he called infield fly I signal the BR out and verbally say and signal that the run still scores. (Score now tied 2-2) Now the home teams coach (lets call him paul) wants to know why his BR is out and Frank wants to know why the run scores. So i tell Frank, "Frank go talk to james (U1) and i will talk to Paul" so after explaining that the BR is out due to the infield fly rule paul says "ok" and goes back to his position. As im walking back towards the plate Frank is walking by the mound and is waving his arms and yells for the whole stadium to hear "Thats messed up" followed by "This is BullSH*#!" After he said that i say "ok, now your done" he stops turns around is coming towards me, i take out my line-up card to write down that he was ejected. Frank is now over me trying to intimidate me (im 5'5 and he is just a little taller than me about 5'8) he says, "Why the hell you throw me out for" and i say "for Unsportsmanlike conduct"so after writing on the line up card, i look up at him as i go to look up he pushes the brim of his helmet into my forehead, where the FHSAA logo on my hat is as soon as he did that i pointed to where he made contact and said "Watch it, Thats contact." He goes on to say "thats bullSH*# and blah blah blah" and i just walk away and ge takes a few steps towards me then exits the field. Following the ejection they intentionally walk the next batter get bases loaded again and then pitcher throws 4 pitches in the dirt. Home team wins 3-2. I got them monday in a district game also, i got 1st base and aready gave my plate umpire and the third base umpire the heads and me being the crew chief hopefully wont cause any problems there. Any advice for my upcoming game with them? *Side note: If this was a college game I would not have tossed him due to the fact he was not directly saying anything to me. Also i do not beleieve that the contact was intentional but either way it is still contact.

I had something similar to this. Look at the 2016 NFHS rule book on page 44, under number 5 and in bold (penalty) and describes the situation in the 3rd or 4th sentence

18 U tournament championship. I got the dish. 3rd inning batter has 1-2 count. Pitch is on the inside part of the plate, i ring him up. He stares at me and draws the line with the handle of the bat and says "thats where it was". I Tossed him, coach comes up to me and says "I'll put in #16 in for him". Pretty easy. After the game my partner and i start talking about it and he says " you should of just warned him" i said "HELL NO, im not gonna let him show me up." Who would warn? Who would EJ?

my game behind the plate was 13U and the game after that (i was at 3rd) was 14 U

Just wanted to let you guys know i was selected at the beginning of the week to work the televised 4-man championship game at the beginning of the week for USSSA where the Atlanta Braves have their spring training games in Kissimmee, FL. Although it wasnt on TV, they still showed it on MLB.com. When i knew this i had to get the plate... Which i did and then i had third base making a few calls. I was really greatful to be doing this at the age of 18 and with only 2 years experince. Couldnt of done it without the help of you guys. Whenever i have a question first place i go is here and 99% of the time its already posted here. Thanks

I agree Max i love my majestic coolbase convertible. I wear it all the time. Had to wear a couple times this summer due to my black shirt getting bleached. Even in the Florida heat i still felt great. The best thing i love about this jacket is that i got it for $28 w/ free shipping on baseball express
