Griping is one thing. Continuing to argue past when you know it's not allowed and gesturing is another. I am not saying he shouldn't have been tossed, but the ump missed two in a row and to ring a guy up on that last pitch was bogus.

So I am behind the plate last night for a LL Juniors game, two teams that I have seen a number of times and figured I was going to get a decent game. Well that went out the window when the HT pitcher couldn't find the strike zone and the top of the first took about 40 minutes. So what happened a couple of innings later shouldn't have surprised me. I had a catcher whiff on a pitch that bounced straight back off of the backstop and caught me right in the ear! Hurt like hell and ear was ringing for the rest of the game but seems ok today, never been hit there before in 20+ years!

Why? Did the umpire miss the call? I'd say he missed two pitches in a row.

You would have to be perfect to pull that move off without balking, not worth the trouble.

Welcome aboard, have fun!

If this kid drops his bat and is shaking his hand in pain he's getting first base on my field.

I am in Los Angeles and occasionally get asked to work for free and will do it if the situation is right.

Molina, great ballplayer. Horrible role model. Total punk.

He had a right to gripe.
-
Yes, but we aren't supposed to start perfect and get better with every game!

Might be he was talking about throwing a curve ball starting at the batter's face, or not. I sure would address it immediately for some clarification.

Solid, must be a cold gym.

Define "declare" Verb Say something in a solemn and emphatic manner. Formally announce the beginning of (a state or condition): "Spain declared war on Britain in 1796". Verbally announce the IFF. I think we are done here.
-
That premise applies when the umpires fail to call the infield fly. In the play that was posted about, they did call it but only with a signal not with voice. I think that's different. And in 95% of the games I do both teams or coaches are screaming (okay that might be too much) infield fly when the ball goes up in that situation anyway. Yeah, and I love when the coaches scream it and at the end of the day it isn't called by me, talk about fun stuff. I have always verbalized IFF and can't really think of a legit reason not to do so. Even if no one hears it I can tell the coaches not only did I point but I called it out as well. Should the offensive team be aware of the situation and act accordingly, absolutely. But I don't think I am doing my job correctly unless I very clearly verbalize the call.

I understand that the pickoff is different but what if the player is returning to base and makes contact with fielder preventing fielder from fielding a ground ball. Interference correct ? Judgement call, it is want we are paid for. Is the fielder in the act of fielding the baseball? Then probably interference on runner.

Runners don't obstruct, they interfere. And staying on the base is no safe haven.
-
Really??? Did you actually watch the video? None of what you described happened.

Where would you have gone Rolando? Honest question ..... And, I'm assuming you're saying that he's behind the fielder and couldn't see the touch? The default on this play has to be an out -- so get the out unless you SEE the miss, not get the safe unless you SEE the touch. Exactly, horrible decision making on the part of the umpire, fielder makes a great play on a hard hit ball, clearly beats the runner to first and you make that call? Someone needs a day or two off for inner contemplation me thinks. -
An odd INT play from the other day.......

Crazy, R2 out on the tag which negates any interference call on BR, BR should be safe at first on the dropped third strike, correct? -
Almost had one last week before I even got to the plate meeting, HC wanted to tell me when the game was going to start. We had a difference of opinion, I won.
-
Would agree it was a tough one with all the other guys having other responsibilities not surprised no help was available to get it right.
-
Re-position the player and play the game, no balk, no runners advance no illegal pitch.

This is something I have really concentrated on this year, can save a lot of sh*tstorms from happening.
