Hello everyone. My name is Ken. I have been on this Forum for a while but have never introduced myself. I am an umpire in Nova Scotia, Canada with over 20 years of experience. I am a certified Level 3 Umpire (for the members not from Canada, a lev 3 umpire is the highest provincial certification able to do any ball within the province. The next highest is Lev 4 – able to work National Championships and above that is Lev 5 – International able to work Pan Am Games, Olympics etc). I am a member of the Provincial Association with a membership of about 350.. This is the only association in Nova Scotia working Baseball Canada type games. There are small pockets of Little League and associated type ball in the province but the majority of Nova Scotia is Baseball Canada using slightly modified OBR (modified for different size fields for different age groups, addition of non contact rule, use of metal bats at some levels, etc). Due to my use of OBR, you will not see me commenting on situations involving other rule sets such as FED especially now as I approach the start of our season (about mid May to mid Sept) so that when I take my annual exams I will not be confused by other rules and mess up. I also am the Assigner for my area with about 80+ umpires working about 950 games over the season plus I also mentor and do evaluations. My assigning is all manual but I post the assignments online on my own web site.

This is the Canadian standard for provincial. The National standard is Red with Black shirt or Navy with powder blue shirt.

I'm glad I do not have FED in this area.

I have been on several other forums (member of 4) and this is one of the best. Yes I have been on a couple others where members tear other members to shreds and that is putting it mildly. This forum is one of the best for not doing this. That's why I like it. I may not say much , but I read a lot. And learn a lot.

Gentlemen (and I use this term loosely) I started this thread to get some opinions on time limit games and how to administrate them. I have received many opinions and suggestions for which I say thank you. However this thread has evolved into an argument off topic and also generated another thread which was even worse. I therefor suggest that this thread be closed , again with my thanks for all the good suggestions.

Thanks for the replies so far. Its not the double headers that are involved. We have that already on a few fields. They are planning on having time limits on single games. Who keeps track of the time ? Do you go with "no inning after a certain time" or just a "drop dead" time ? Do you go with "score reverts" or just keep whatever it is like a "no lights" ruling ? I would like a few more replies. Thanks.

The baseball association in my area are planning on starting to have time limits on some games. I have not been involved in any of this in the past. How is this handled in your area ? I am asking this from two views - I am on the board of the association as the umpire rep and also as an umpire who is involved with training/mentoring umpires.

I carried an indicator for 19 years as BU. Last season started not carrying one. Works fine ! Even when PU asks for count if missed. Solution - keep the count in your head !!!

It is the second part referred to about "with the help" of the batter that I (we?) were looking for a cite .

I would also be interested in a rule cite. As far as I know, under OBR, the run would score on the passed ball. A score "with the help" of the illegal batter would be as a result of a hit, etc and is covered in the rules.

This is a Baseball Canada rule. When warming up a pitcher the person whether squatting or standing must wear a mask. It actually reads that a player must wear a protective helmet and mask while a coach needs only a mask.

Sorry, but in Canada, anybody who warms up a pitcher anywhere, weather standing or squatting , on the field, in the bullpen , anywhere and in any position , must wear a mask.
