Check your appropriate rule set. NFHS It is not abandonment until he enters the dugout or dead ball area. In NCAA it is not abandonment until he reaches a base and then leaves the baseline. Also, if the b/r retreats past home plate he is out just as noumpere referenced.

Titanium v Hockey Mask v Old School Steel
kanedog replied to Concernedcitizen2's topic in Umpire Equipment
I have been contemplating switching from my Honigs w TW to titanium but this article along with the NCAA equipment discussion in Philly has made me hesitate. If I do go titanium do I go with Wilson, Rawlings or All-Star. I tried the new Rawlings TI and it seems really small, as if it will barely cover your face. -
UA cold wear, Honigs cold gear, then the Smittys Mock Cold weather mock (All American sells it), then the majestic jackets. All on at the same time. College games in March in the NE are cold. North face glove liners with Manzellas on top. Cold weather hood.

Just have your pen ready to write down all the ejections from the beanballs or coaches getting dumped. Then you will be the star of the show. THEN, everyone will ask, "why did he let it go that far?"

In college ball, someone is going to get hurt. MidAmUmp is correct. An eye for an eye is over and we are tasked with managing the game. F 1 should have been immediately ejected for throwing at the opposing F2 but it shouldn't have come to this. Preventative umpiring could have diffused the situation. If you are curious the 'rule' I would cite to get him to knock it off, NCAA 3-6b "b. Each umpire is an approved official of the institution, league or conference and is authorized and required to enforce each section of these rules. Further, the individual is obliged to conduct the game under conditions conducive to the highest standards of good sportsmanship. Each umpire has the authority to rule on any point not specifically covered in these rules.' If talking to the catcher doesn't work. Tell his coach or his starting pitcher. I'm sure they won't be thrilled with F2 giving their pitches away.

Fed you have 5-1-1f and 8-3-3C and it is two bases from TOP. NCAA 8-3l is umpire discretion.
-
FED rule set. Starting shortstop is warming up in the bullpen. The coach wants him to continue warming up while the current pitcher takes his 5 warm up pitches. Once the current pitcher takes his 5 pitches, he wants to replace him with the shortstop who is warming up already and then gets his 8 warm ups. Essentially getting in five extra warm ups. I know 3-1-2 says a pitcher replaced while his team is on defense shall face the first hitter etc but the ball was not in play yet. I told him that if the pitcher came out to warm up, he has to face the first batter. My partner says you simply deduct the current pitcher's warm ups from the substitute pitcher's eight. Correct ruling? Reference? Thanks.

Being an assigner I can understand what Bam is saying about 'forgetting about a guy'. Try incorporating blocks into the system prior to the week being assigned. Mondays are usually slow around here so veteran guys will block that day so they have a day off after 4-6 games on the weekend.

Excluding the Nike mask, which of the three remaining traditional titanium masks has an advantage, if any? All-Star Wilson Rawlings

I had the same problem with the 12.5". I ended up buying the 10.75 and it's closer together around my neck with less of that gap.
-
I wasn't sure if I was looking under the right section. Thank you though.

Does NCAA allow fake tags? I know that FED addresses it in the rule book but I didn't see it in the NCAA rule book. If it is, can you provide me a rule reference? Thanks.

I use the 54's on my plate shoes and 45's on my base. Also, these are the best laces. They don't slip or untie because they 'lock' into place. http://www.newbalance.com/Bubble-Lace/BUBBLE,default,pd.html?dwvar_BUBBLE_color=Orange&start=1&cgid=113000 Obviously the black not the orange.

I have an addiction to this site so although I don't post, I'm on here daily. The bag is not embroidered with my name. It does have the force3 logo embroidered. I didn't give that a thought until I worked my first two college games and my partners' bags said JEAMU ( I think that's right). The bag is still for sale. It has been used in said two games.

Do the secondary market Nike's retain a manufacturer warrenty or $500 with a bent frame =SOL?
-
The jacket is still available.

For those who wear plate coats, do you wear a shirt over your protector? Obviously not a polo.

I actually stopping reading it years ago but a new member in our group asked me. I told him the same thing. Way too many mistakes.

R2 is attempting to score on B3's single, F2 does not have the ball when he blocks off R2, and the umpire declares obstruction. Does the runner have to touch the plate? If not, can the defense appeal? Referee magazine states that he has to touch and can be out on appeal for ALL levels. However, NCAA 8-6-3AR4 "If obstruction causes a runner to miss a base, the runner shall not be called out on appeal for missing the base" Couldn't find anything in FED.
-
I found it interested that NCAA specifically addresses that play while FED does not. I had it on the test this year that all obstruction is a minimum one base award and it's false. Curious since FED specifically states all obstruction is a min one base award.
-
JM, A thrown ball lodged in offensive uniform is one base from TOT, correct? I know it's a different situation but it makes it a different award. 8-3-4f
