Game Highlights: Joey Jones was removed from his LL game today trailing 82-0 in the first inning after hitting the first 85 batters. The game was delayed for 23 minutes part way through the inning when the first aid crew ran out of ice for the bruised batters and had to send out for more. A few of the more squeamish players were subbed for after being hit 5 times but most endured the 9 or10 hits they took. Two team parents were livid about the abuse but most just told their kids to "suck it up and take it like a man." 9 of the 12 kids on the roster turned in their uniforms after the game and announced they were transferring to the track team where they were taking up javelin catching which they deemed safer. lol. I hope the defensive coach will consider these possible consequences as he leaves Joey in the game. I expect the eloquent offensive coach to appeal to the defensive coach to stop the carnage for the good of the league. This is a good league. Everyone gets a trophy just for showing up. Pain and dirt and facing difficult situations should be eliminated by the parents so no child need suffer. Maybe even league representatives can have a chat with our determined defensive coach. Neither league officials, nor managers, nor coaches, nor parents should ask me to make up rules to suit them. That won't happen.

That's fantastic! I'm going to remember that. "What's his league age? What's his pitch count? Well coach, looks like he can hit 22 more batters if they want...."
-
I have run into that situation in LL All Star play. Offensive team wants F1 removed after he hit his third batter. OHC was dumbfounded when I declined.

I have three kids in high school, two of them girls. I think the story is hilarious! Thanks for posting it.

The players and managers bumping and shouting and pointing. I don't know how the umpires keep so cool some times.
-
I can frighten you more without the pictures. Little League. Fall ball. Minors. I'm getting hit a lot.

I'm dropping all my band classes. Rather be on stage crew. <edit> removed my own foolish comment.
-
Oh man, most of High School sucked.<shudder> I was a band geek.

" the PA team was showing up the umpire on most every pitch the last 2 innings " I didn't get to watch the game. What was PA doing?

Great story. Thanks.

Weird play and 'experts' in the bleachers

Thanks for sharing the story Fleas'. I enjoyed reading it. Thank you. -
I know surgery recovery pain. It's almost always better than what sends you to surgery. I understand the fear, too. Write down your questions and your fears and TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. He is the one that can calm your fears. Good luck. It will probably go a lot better than you think.

I am going to tell that manager that the runner was advancing from 1st to 2nd and that makes an out for the head first slide. Toward the next base (n+1) is advancing. Good try by the manager to find some wiggle in wording the rule.

How many in your crew? What position for you?

OP specified 12 player roster. 2014 Little League Tournament Playing Rule(TPR) 9 (page T-16, T-17): Minimum play is six consecutive defensive outs and one at-bat. 2014 Little League Tournament Playing Rule 10© (page T-18): Substitutions / Re-entry - A substitute entering the game for the first time may not be removed prior to completion of her/his mandatory play. I do not see in TPR 9 or TPR 10 any requirement that the starter must complete his 6+1 before he is removed. I incorrectly cited 3:03 in my earlier post. That's the regular season rule. The citations in this post apply to tournament play. I am only citing a portion of the noted rules.
-
The starter can be removed before he attains is 6+1. The substitute cannot. Once the sub enters, he cannot be replaced until both his consecutive defensive outs AND his one at bat have been satisfied. This is not the Minimum Play Rule but in the Substitution rule(3.03).

Another method to handle these coaches is to refuse to grant their request for time. If my parent / volunteer partner makes an obviously incorrect call there is nothing I can do. It's his call. If he does ask me what I saw, I will tell him. But by rule, I cannot over-ride his call. There are multiple options available to me to handle a coach that is coming out frequently about judgement calls(all prior posts), I have employed them all depending on the situation.
-
I learned that one from Ken Allan. me too
-
After a few of those where the coach just doesn't like the call and is clearly shopping.... "Coach, if you come out again when I don't think it's necessary, you will be ejected for delaying the game".
-
I always were a cup on the field.
-
perhaps contact Rulekeep for some pointers.

With CBO there is no one 'out of the game' that can be subbed in for the injured player. Next batter comes up and assumes the count.
