I agree with your call. I would have called it the same in LL.

I agree that on-field feedback would be best. Most of my partners have been pressured into fulfilling their volunteer opportunities and do not provide valuable feedback. This has only be going on for a few games. I'll pay particular attention to my timing tonight and work the sock drill in future days. I had an evaluation last month and that game didn't show the problem.

Thank you for posting your questions. I've been having similar problems. It's good to have company. Thanks for all suggestions for fixes, too.

Our LL where my boys play uses a mix of volunteer and paid plate umpires with all volunteer base umpires. Lots of district umpires volunteer during the regular season. I think all weekend games at the most advanced play field (LL Majors) were covered by district umpires. There is talk of going with all paid guys and raising the fees. One of our neighboring leagues uses all paid umps. A plate assignment costs the league $50. I don't know how much of that goes to the assignor and how much to the umpire.

Every kid that plays at our local league has had their Guaranteed Major League Baseball Career ruined by only one thing....bad umpires.

Congratulations.

Was the ball in live ball territory when it was touched by the fielder, then the fielder moved into DBT with the ball in his possession?
-
How many times do I have to see it before I conclude that the team is coaching the players to leave early in opposition to the rule (cheating).? Then, when do I get to EJ the manager?
-
We shouldn't need to be shown the ball, we should find it before we make the call. If he doesn't ask to see the ball in this case, is he supposed to wait until the catcher removes the ball from his glove or turns his glove to reveal the ball (or lack of ball) before he makes a call. I think that asking to see it reduces the wait time.

Put up the stop sign to the pitcher as you are approaching your position. Since you don't take your eyes off the ball, you can probably see this situation brewing. --Ron Sunrise? Field3? PM me

It appears we would benefit from knowing the setting: Little League? PONY? FED? What? From the description "Minors Division" I'm guessing Little League. Is that you Shawn? From SoCal?

League officials step in and correct the error of the umpire. Home team wins. No resumption. This is my dream of an assertive and informed Board of Directors. HAhahahahahaha

What are the top couple of things you need to fix this year?

Slow down behind the plate. The focus on getting the timing right will help my inconsistency at the top of the zone. -

I've stepped in without my mask. I heard a spectator comment and I screeched TIME, then grabbed it from the shed where I put it when I grabbed game balls. I had a buddy come to watch a game, we were chatting before the game and I forgot shin guards. I asked him to fetch them and I put them on between innings. <red faced embarrassed, glad I'm not alone> -
I had a twelve inning Little League Majors game on a 106F degree day. I didn't watch the clock. It was hot.

Today is our local little league opening day. Rained out. Games rescheduled for tomorrow but that's not looking too good. I have two games scheduled for tomorrow. It's been a long winter looking out the window, waiting.

What is the Slide mechanic? That's not a term I know. I've only been taught the rotation of PU to 3B and 1U going home. I didn't know there was another option.

I've got two players doing what they are supposed to be doing...That's Nothing. Batter/Runner to 2B on the first throw by an infielder going into DBT.

LL: Atkins back to first; Barnes is out; Crane is up to bat. PU gets a war story.
