the lasrt time I looked a umpire is not part of the ground crew
-
the call was correct--the runner on 1st can not interfere with a fielder fielding a batted ball he was making a play on.
-
as long as you are on the field working the best game in the world--at the level you are happy with--life is GOOD
-
you also start in D with runner on 2nd and 3rd(also 3rd only)
-
if it was not for the parents or coaches (one and the same) little league would be fun to work--the kids are the best---but if I am going to hear it from the adults I am getting paid--and if I am getting paid --you might as well get some training and get paid the most--and if you are getting paid the most in the area--your skill is wotrth it--skill can not be facked.
-
when taking a play at third the best place to be is behind the bag so that the ball is comming straight at you --set up in foul ground behind 3rd in a straight line between 3rd and the spot of the thrown ball--let the ball move you left or right to get the best angle.
-
they look like fools---on the next close play someone thinks they got wrong--out will come the dance"you can't ump or dance"
-
so are you a umpire who also coaches or are you a coach who uses the fact that you ump to help you as a coach to get an advantage in a game.
-
I got goose bumps--run for office, you got my vote.
-
i like it--do you mind if I use that line
-
he sounds more like a business owner than a assigner/umpire
-
good point--because if you ask for help and your partner says foul (why?? but I have seen it happen)after you ask --you have a Shxt storm from the coaches for not killing it ASAP--the defense thinks they have a easy out and them it is taken away from them or the BR makes first and them is taken first base because of the call foul--much better for the BU to call time ASAP.
-
how could you tell if it was intentional or not --can you read the fielders mind(or are you lying about knowing for sure)--you always kill the ball--learn the game not just the rules.
-
of coure I would not lie---that is a stupid thing to say--but it seems to me by your post and replay that you are a rule book ump--just answer my question about the example I gave you in my post, would you would let the triple play stand????as a ump you can know the rules or you can know the rule and know how to ump--witch one are you???
-
if the dropping of the ball puts the base runners at risk the batter is out--take the situation bases loaded no outs and a line drive to the firstbaseman and he dropes the ball because he can not handle to ball--the ball falls at the first basemans feet--he could have a easy triple play. You will have a SHXT house if you let the triple play stand and the coach of the team at bat knows the rules(that would be a supprise)--if you call the basll dead this will save you --say the fielder is good at the droping of the ball why try to read into the mind of the fielder--in my opinion I will alway call the batter out and the ball droped on purpuse so I will alway use the rule to my favor.
-
the one that alway makes them scratch there heads--runner on first or first and third, the ball is hit to an infielder(line drive or pop up) ball hits the glove and infielder drops the ball--result is dead ball batter out--you are sure to get "in all my years I never seen that called".
-
when you are in B or C -what I use to judge if a batter went on the pitch is to see the barrel of the bat, if I see that barrel that means the bat had to cross home plate.
-
the trouble I find with the mesh hat is the it is not made from a nature fabric--after a couple of hot days --no matter how much it is washed there is a oder that never leaves--sort of like the SEINFELD show when Jerry could not get the sink out of his car--no matter how much you wash that type of hat you can not get the stink out.
-
the umpire you worked with is a person you never want to work with--you say he is level 1 with that zone--the trouble is he probably thinks he is good and does not try to get better. You sound new and it seems you want to get better--my advice is to not work with him ever, turn down the assignment--let the assigner know you will not work with him ever--you will see others will follow your lead and either he will work at getting better and if he does not at least you will never have to deal with the problems that working a game with him bring.
-
this happens because most coaches think they know the rules--just ask them--most people who coach are parents of a player on the team and they think they know the rules because of what they see on TV(OBR)--most do not take the time to read a rule book and most do not even think there is a difference in codes-OBR/NCAA/FEDERATION.

Calling a game solo by standing behind the mound
spiritumpa replied to benrosen's topic in Umpire Mechanics
how can you tell fair/foul on a ball down the line??? -
I understand the way you handle your game--I guess it is just when they "talk about us paying you" to me it is them treating the umpire as a employee who they(the boss who pays) fell is not good at their job. The way I looked at it is as soon as they bring up money it is no longer a umpire player relationship it is a boss employee relationship--just a question if you hired a plumber and you felt he was did not know the ruls of plumbing --does that give you the right to get in his face and call him names because you are paying him.
-
one question--if the teasm had more thasn nine players would you of run him as you would of been justified to to--let him read a rule book before you let him talk down to you about the money he pays you--as yo can tell I feel that the rat should have been shown the door.
-
You are doing the correct mechanic--keep your eye always on the ball and let the ball take you to the bag--here is where I think your problem is--after you make the call you feel that you made a mistake-SSSLLLOOOWWW down let the play finish let the tag be made the ball shown--then and only then after you digested the play make the call. PS close play = OUTS (outs get us home)
