Nice try - old rule book. Current OBR since before 2012. LL says the same thing (phrased differently) in their 2022 rule 7.08(e) 4.09(b)(6) He or the next base is tagged before he touches the next base, after he has been forced to advance by reason of the batter becoming a runner.

WR0NG! The rule says for an out the tag of the base must be BEFORE the runner touches it. If there is a "tie" the condition of BEFORE was NOT met so the runner is safe.

Reg VI (g) says the official count recorder should (not must) notify the UIC when the limit is met and the UIC must then inform the manager that F1 must be removed. BUT failure to notify does not relieve the manager of the responsibility. So we also need to know why the official recorder did not notify the UIC. I had two tally counters - one for my pitchers and one to count the other team's pitches. The trick is to hit the button at pitch release so you don't forget when the action starts. Did the same thing when I was in the booth scorekeeping for other games.

Does it depend on the rules set? The help would not have happened but for the obstruction. In OBR at least the remedy for obstruction is to negate the effects of the obstruction. Thus without the obstruction there would have been no coach help. And Richvee, if the runner was obstructed rounding 3B from 2B on a normal single he would have scored so the base award should have been home, not 3B.

The instructor is correct. Runner is going to run straight through and not alter his path on a play at 1B because there's no turn to make or a retreat path, so the only exception is if the fielder blocks the bag before getting the ball.

If the ball never left the glove how can you say it wasn't controlled? An "ice cream cone" catch is a valid catch.

By rule the UIC is only charged with counting balls and strikes. In OBR the official scorer officially tracks the outs. In OBR the scorer is the one that is responsible to notify the teams if sides change before three are out. Check the book if necessary. And again, why would any team worth being on the field also lose track and thus not object?
