Had a bad throw go under the fence at the 3rd base dugout. Defensive team occupies the dugout. After the inning is over one of the coaches complains that it's not fair and he wants the run nullified that scored from the base award. Sorry no can do. He even goes over to the UIC to complain. For some reason he thought if he was on the 1st base side things would have been different. Never did find out why he thought it was unfair for his team. BTW... He was wearing "Jorts" (jean shorts), so that might of had something to do with it.:rolleyes:

Usually they lose it in the sun. This time on our rec ball night game the 14u pitcher gets a pop up right above him. He stumbles around and just can't get it. He says to his short stop that "I lost it in the dark"

Fighting? Who were the coaches fighting with? Can I assume this was not "litlle kid" baseball? This is an excellent post by Mike.....I do track ejections but just as another item I track in my game journal. The current journal I am using only goes back to 2002. I believe I have a reputation of if a coach or player needs to go, They go......I dont not pass on a probelm child or coach onto the next crew...........and also like mike, I feel I have a low ejection rate.... that being said, in my journal, I show 17 ejections in the last 9 years. here is the breakdown: Coaches: 7 Players: 10 7 Coaches ejected for: Arguing Balls and Strikes: 2 Profanity 2 Fighting 2 Prolonged demonstration 1 10 Players ejected for: Arguing balls and strikes 2 (1 pitcher-1 batter) Fighting 2 Profanity 2 Throwing equipment 1 Malicious Contact 3 9 years- 702 ball games.....

Only 8? I've had 27 since the 1st of April. Working on 28 for tonight. It official... make that 28 and 29 now.

I had one similar to this a couple of years ago. (13u OBR) Lob ball pitcher throwing to the stud of the team. He's got his front foot on the front line of the box. First pitch comes in and it's a ball but the batter takes his usual stride and steps probably 6" to 8" inches past the front line. I mention to him to watch that front foot. He looks at me like "mind your own business" (I guess I should have) Next pitch comes in and it's in the zone and he spanks it right up the middle. The foot was once again out of the box. That was an easy one. 1st base coach asks me what happened, I tell him, he shruggs his shoulders and we move on to the next batter.

Boy you guys have it rough. Our park (16 fields) makes the Head Coach responsible for fan control. If things get out of hand, he is warned and will suffer the ejection consequences if things aren't taken care of. On a second ejection, it's a forfeit. It's worked pretty good so far.

OBR and R1 Ball is thrown out of play by outfielder. I know it's 2 bases from time of throw so let's assume that R1 had not reached 2nd when the throw was made but the BR HAD reached 1st when the throw was made. R1 would go to 3rd and the BR should go to 3rd. Does BR push R1 who is now on 3rd home or does BR have to stay at 2nd because 3rd is occupied?

OBR and RHP Pitcher is set and does the typical spin move to throw to first. However, instead of his right foot ending up closer to the 3rd base side of the rubber, it lands behind the rubber. He did not throw the ball. Now I know you can't fake to 1st and that would constitute a balk but since his foot ended up behind the rubber I'm thinking it's similar to stepping of and then throwing. But he didn't step off then throw. It was all in one motion. I'm thinking this should have been a balk. Thanks

I'm thinking a runner is ALWAYS responsible for touching a base regardless as to the reason for missing it. See 7.05 ...If a runner is forced to return to a base after a catch, he must retouch his original base even though, because of some ground rule or other rule, he is awarded additional bases...

Type B isn't an automatic to second. Only type A. At least in OBR. But this is High School so do they get an automatic base on any type of OBS?

I've been waiting years for this to happen! I've been quizzing my fellow umps about what they would call if a runner was on the base and got hit by a batted ball. Most said he'd be safe since he's on the base. I corrected them and was all set to someday make a great call. Sunday it happened. (The play, not the call) R1 / 2 outs High fly right over first base. F3 loses it in the sun and ball comes down right on top of R1. I brain cramp and don't call intereference. Ball rolls towards the pitchers mound, R1 takes off towards 2nd and they get him "out" on the force. Outcome was the same but I missed my big chance to "get the call right" After the play was over I explain to the coaches what should have been called and we move on. But dang, I'll never have that chance again.

The coach had multiple ejections in one season? We have travel teams playing in our league and on the second ej in one season coach receives a multi game suspension. 3rd time and you are gone for the season. I love our league. They really back up the umps. ANY touching whether it's intentional or not and the perp is gone for the season.

Reynolds also said (.20 into the video) that it was 2 bases for the catcher using his mask when the rule clearly states that it is one. (They even quoted it on the screen) Oops!

This pretty much says it all.

And on top of all that... let's just say it WAS his foot actually getting close to crossing the back edge of the rubber. Who has the best view? Base coaches. Who has the worst view? BU in the B position. When I've been confronted with that, I just give them my "view" speech and it usually takes care of things.

And that's what I wanted to be sure of.. in the air O.K. On the ground.. "yer out!"

OBR This "almost" happened last year and I'll probably get these guys again... Batter is as far as he can get in the front of the box but still in it. (Foot is not on the line however) Just about every pitch he swung at and eventually contacted resulted in his foot being out of the box when it came down. As far as I could tell he contacted the ball while his foot was in the air and then as he followed thru his foot landed outside the box. It was difficult to tell if he actually contacted the ball when his front foot was on the ground outside the box or the contact was made while his foot was in the air. I was still trying to focus on the zone. Maybe I should just ignore this as it was difficult to tell when contact occured and ended and when his foot was outside the box. Anyway... your thoughts?

Kevin, Thanks for the info... If I just peel it to the left without any outward movement I think I'm going to run into problems. 4. I remove my mask, not by pulling it out and up, but by grabbing it by the bottom and peeling it straight off to the left. (After I peel it off, the pads are facing the field.) This is the quickest, most effective way, and it's also the best way to keep your eye on the ball. When you lift it upward, you obscure your vision for an instant, and it does take longer.
