This is a great move for the NCAA. I have learned a lot from Jeff over the years. There is going to be a large void on the field for the ACC to fill.

Perhaps I wasn't paying attention. Wouldn't be the first time.

The NCAA made it clear it was looking for someone to replace George Drouches, who was leaving the post. In March the NCAA named Scott Cline as the baseball umpiring coordinator after a national search.

When did the NCAA indicate that Cline withdrew from the position? Last I heard was on ESPN from the commentators that Cline wouldn't be on the field any longer and this year's Championship was his swan song.

Apparently, in July Cline took the position as the AACC Supervisor of Baseball umpires.

What aren't we hearing and why didn't the NCAA open up the search again (or did they) ?

who was the former ACC supervisor to start with. scratching my head on that one, as to the leaving part.

I never saw the NCAA post the job again after Cline took the ACC job, but people obviously knew he couldn't do both.  My guess is the NCAA reached out privately to other people who had been interested in the position the first time around in March.  Just a guess though.

My guess is they ranked the candidates during the initial interview process and just went to their #2.

Cline will be a great coordinator for the 3 D1 conferences that he has picked up, to go with the D2 and JUCO he already has. I worked in his group when I was in Nashville, and the instruction he and his staff give is some of the best in the country.

No, it won't. They can just get someone out of the stands. (Smartass emoji)
