BLWizzRanger Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Just curious for the most part. Started watching videos tonight and saw some POV ones come up that were interesting. I think I am agnostic because you can't really see the finer details, say behind the plate, if you are trying to be better calling pitches. And, quite frankly, I always want the view to focus on what I want to see out of the picture vice the straight line view of the camera itself. So what do you think? Quote
SeeingEyeDog Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 I wonder...how or if conduct of players, coaches, parent spectators...or even umpires might change when an umpire walks onto the field wearing a body cam. Would be an interesting behavioral study... ~Dawg 2 Quote

I would highly, highly suggest developing a published policy with your association/league regarding this; if not part of one, then one for yourself. This policy needs to define the scope and content of what you will be recording, its purposes, and when you will be recording and when you will not be recording. Even if you are doing this only for self-improvement and/or training purposes, to have a capricious approach to when and where you will be recording could come back to haunt you if conflict arises. "Why is there video available of the argument on June 1 and not of the one on June 20? Did you intentionally not record?" Quote

I've thought about it, but the technology isn't there for me. I want a camera that can shoot HD, be secured inside the ear flaps of the mask, and can record the whole game with audio without using an external device (for storage or power). There are a lot that check a couple of the boxes, but I can't find one that checks all the boxes. Quote

They say it is for them to study later, but I have only heard of them e-mailing video to the tournament directors after a dispute during a game, which they seem to have more than their fair share of. Protected behind the bars on one side and the padding on the other. Either that or smart glasses perhaps. 1 Quote
grayhawk Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 I wore some camera sunglasses in a few off-season games about 7 years ago. They will record continuously for only 5 minutes. Some rundown footage in this video about halfway through. Rundown.MOV 1 Quote

The problem, no matter where on the mask you attach it, is that the camera is pointing where your mask is pointing, not where your eyes are pointing. You aren't going to get what you want to see. 1 Quote

You aren't going to get what you want to see. Yeah, that is what I tried to express in my original post. My eyes reviewing the video would want to see just outside of frame and, as you mentioned, while live, my eyes would still move out of frame picking up on something other than what the camera focused on. BLWizzRanger Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 @grayhawk Did you like it? Seems like you stopped recording if this was 7yrs ago. Quote

It was more of a novelty for me, but if it would record continuously, I might use them more in the off-season. I would never use them in a regular season game. Quote
concertman1971 Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Here are some dropbox links to my head cam. If they are video from behind the dish (1st link), cam is taped to the top of the mask facing slightly down, so you can see the whole zone. Minor league pitching and catching. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/w2l1bl5a7bgu0yflv0jdt/20250110_102639.MP4?rlkey=39p8qj23wvh8lb2y0izobkupz&st=44nnrvu6&dl=0 This link is same camera, but worn around the head on the ear. Go to about 1:30 to get some action. (bring on the critique!!) https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/c5a4ldoqsunmi5z8ae423/20240812_132924.MP4?rlkey=33x3n6ybrd1fa3swlndtf07yu&st=l3ckq802&dl=0 If you click the picture quality, you can set it at 1080p. If you just leave it recording on a full charge, it lasts 'about' 2 hours. SO much dead time and plays where nothing is really happening. I found that if i recorded by the half inning, it was easier to find the action, as I could not what inning and the time stamp. Here is the camera. App is not very user friendly, and once you are wearing it, unless you have your phone with you, you can not see what the camera is seeing. People I know have had bad experiences with this one, but mine have all been solid. https://www.amazon.com/EP8-Camcorder-Wearable-Head-Mounted-Stabilizer/dp/B09TR4KQ81/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=29E3O2D88KGTT&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.o8i9jw8EFiJHwqXPfMv3HCrdpZoiiPhoNfKO3MY8EOXiHoL996pGrDUhlSxlYpl1BNAxdxCm05KK-Zv-X2NKbgP8pSxpLT3cO4YGHMUoe87zR4AmS32emJreW0Ri3o1onVWzaukoJVvpRgDDn4rQRQ6eEXZxPFYI8Yp3UkRSQyf2jIu52475o7kXAxQDuaXjvUBl6p-7V6pEi-rQXavTxm2I_ZGZolyTjc6BClqeD4I.h4ekBQX5todO2R3K04hZiN7IliC6hGsTFhKdckACKdc&dib_tag=se&keywords=head%2Bmounted%2B4k%2Bcamera&qid=1736742953&sprefix=head%2Bmounted%2B4k%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1 Quote
BLWizzRanger Posted January 13 Author Report Posted January 13 Thanks @concertman1971. From what I could see, it was almost like you were floating on air with that footwork. lol. Can't wait for Elon to invent the chip that is implanted behind the ear and can read the optical nerves for video. 2 Quote
