The best ever. No one else is even close.

Only one is, and the day he leaves us will be a somber day indeed.

“Juuussst a bit outside!”

“Heyy! Get up, get up, get outta here, GONE!”

Now, ...I don't think anyone is going to argue that Uecker is a classic, no doubt, but .... not even close to Vin

I have always said that listening to Vinny was like drinking a cool glass of water.  Easy and delightful to do and you always want more.

After Al Michaels at Lake Placid in 1980, Scully's call of Gibson's improbable home run in Game 1 of the 1988 WS was my second favorite childhood sports memory. I was a Tigers fan growing up. Like Gibson, I too was Michigan born...and I was devastated when Gibson signed with the LAD. I was then further bummed in the fall of 1988 when Detroit missed the post-season by 1 game. No wildcard in those days, kids.

So, with Detroit out of it and the World Series beginning...there wasn't much for me to cheer for. My Dad came and got me in my room. "Come and watch...it's the World Series...you never know what might happen in a big game!" And then with 2 out in the 9th and a man on first, Tommy Lasorda made one of the greatest coaching decision in the history of sport. He put in Gibby as a pinch hitter and I said, "Gibson!?!?! He's got a bad knee on one leg and a pulled hamstring on the other! It's freaking Dennis Eckersley out there!" Without missing a beat my Dad said, "Yeah...crazy...wouldn't it be something if he put the ball in play here?" And then of course...as Vin informed the world...this happened, and the improbable became possible:

Also, many people know "The Catch" from the 1981 NFC Championship Game...DAL @ SF. What many people DON'T know? The guy on the radio calling that game and that play? Vincent Edward Scully...RIP, Vin...you were the very best and we will always miss you.

Where ya from Dawg (MI)?

I was Detroit born. My Dad worked for the Blue Oval. We moved away when I was 4 but, I still have lots of family there and get back from time to time.
