Question
Guest Doug Heffernan
Local Cal Ripken tournament yesterday. Same play in 2 different games, 2 different calls. 6U coach pitch / tee kid hits double and slides head first into second. Called safe. Manager of defensive team calls time and claims head first sliding was illegal and runner is out. Umpire says no. Game carries on.
Later in the day same tournament, 8U sling pitch, identical play. Only in this game, even though the runner was clearly safe, he was immediately called out for head first slide. No argument from offensive manager.
Overhead lots of discussion about head first slides claiming it is or isn't allowed in Cal Ripken baseball under a certain age. Anyone have a rule # or guidance?
Thanks
