Colorful question

Interesting event took place today,  the batters count was 3-1 w/ a runner on 2b.  The pitcher throws a wild pitch to the backstop and the ball kicks back toward the field along the line to first base.     The ball 4 batter inadvertently kicks the ball on his way to first (fully outside the batters box area). Meanwhile, the 2B runner has gone to 3rd on the wild pitch.

I agree -- that's interesting.  Did you have a question about it?  Your thread title indicated that it's a "colorful" question -- so maybe the answer is that at this time of the year, the umpires should be wearing black.

 

Oh, btw,  the play stands (the ball remains live after the inadvertent kick).

Maybe the field was surrounded by peak foliage color.

I thought they couldn't wear WHITE after Labor day.
