Touched down in Seattle at 8:22 local time. Mariners v Brewers and fireworks tonight. Plenty of cool airplane photos that I'll dump in the photography forum later. Umpires (HOPEFULLY) tomorrow!!

I'll be there tonight! You came for a real hot patch, 90's today and tomorrow. Go Mariners! 

 

If you want advice on parking or food let me know. Assuming you didn't used to live here or something.

Anyways update: Jim Joyce is at this game and I will get a photo with him if I have to fling myself over the dugout to get it. @Stk004 and I met up and he showed me the stadium, and I figured out how to get behind the sign. Also I touched a stingray.

First blunder of the trip! Left my debit card in an ATM at Safeco Field! (It's now deactivated so don't go hunting for my sweet Kroger money.)

It's Felix night! 

We got stuck in Bellevue attempting to find a bank that could replace my debit card so I could get access to my SWEET KROGER MONEY so I didn't get a chance to go Ump Hunting-better luck tomorrow.

More eventful stuff:

I went to the EMP Museum today and we stayed so long we had to run to get to our parking before it expired. 

And my dad and I were walking around the block of the space needle and I pointed out a cyclist sort of drifting between lanes as he went up the hill and my dad said "Yeah, but he doesn't have a light under his seat so he's gonna-" and he was cut off by the sound of a car hitting the poor guy. He cartwheeled into the next lane, and my dad screamed while I ran into traffic and got the bike out of the way. (Back wheel was wrecked but he'll be able to fix the frame.) His first words were "well, I better call somebody." He stayed responsive and had motion in his legs, but there was a pretty obvious fracture (bone through skin), lots of blood, and the woman who hit him was absolutely inconsolable, even though he said repeatedly he would be okay and he had family coming. One of the people in the car had first aid training and had to continually shout at people not to move him since everybody around was either calling 911 or screaming to get him out of the street. Except the one woman who kept telling him it was because he was white and deserved it. 

Anyways my huge lifesaving role in this was directing traffic into a single lane.

Geez, when I go to Seattle I usually just get a burger at Dick's and call it a day.

How come either nobody calls 911 or everyone does? I def wouldn't call if I saw/heard others doing it.

I read The Psychology of Persuasion a couple years ago, and it was interesting that in so many emergencies, nobody will stop and help, even if someone is yelling "help me!". He said it's better to engage someone and give them an assignment - like "you in the red shirt, call 911" "you in the yellow hat, keep your monkey away from him! I don't care how curious George is!" and so on. That it gets better results.

Well, the group of people who were right up on him were organized. The person who was doing the actual first aid was giving instructions like "Give me your jacket, get the cars into a single file line, move the bike, hold his head" etc. My dad was the first one to call 911, cause he had his phone out when the crash happened and we were maybe 15-20 feet away, but he was on one side of the street and most of the bystanders were on the other, and since I kept hearing "by the space needle" and "lots of blood" I figured everybody standing there was also calling. But the emergency dispatcher will only call in one set of EMTs and an ambulance unless people are saying there more than one person down.

The guy couldn't have been more than 20 and I'm hesitant to think what would have happened if he hadn't been wearing a helmet.

Yeah, that's crazy, hope he's ok. Bones sticking out of skin and joints going in the wrong direction ... seen enough, don't like seeing more.

Unless he punctured something internally he's probably just shook up really good, concussion for sure, maybe some broken ribs, but the leg was splinted on the scene and he was still moving so I doubt he broke anything in his back or neck.

Yeah, that's good. I'm sure he'll be sore. My friend got riding her bike a 4 years ago and her shoulder won't stay in place. She hasn't had use of her one arm since then. Sucks when there's lingering effects. Bike vs car is no joke

Got detailed instructions from a friendly gate host on how to get down to the basement and into the umpire tunnel. We made the mistake of asking a security guard for clarification and got kicked out of the Diamond Club. I didn't mean to and don't know why I did, but I started crying in the line for the elevator and the gate host took my section, row, and seat and my contact information so I might be getting an escort or a signed ball. Stay tuned.

Got seat upgrades from the foul pole to next to the tunnel and food vouchers and instructions on how to get them to sign my hat or a ball. No post-game meet and greet-yet. (The Safeco host mentioned still talking to management.)
