Fall Weather

Second weekend in July and wearing a jacket umping this morning. Only 55F this morning. What the heck is up with this.

Meanwhile, in Williamsburg, Virginia, it was 94-97 degrees, depending on where you were, with humidity.  I would have LOVED some fall weather for my games yesterday.  Maybe not down to jacket-level, but say, 10-15 degrees lower.

I worked the Babe Ruth State Finals in  SW Washington last night. My two partners and I wore jackets and still froze as soon as the sun started going down.

What I wouldn't give for that kind of weather here in NJ after the heat wave last week. Yesterday was a "cool" 80 with a nice breeze.

I would've loved that!  I worked the USSSA Global World series in GA Fri-Sun and the temps were mid-upper 90's. Add in the GA humidity and everyone was miserable. There was one turf field that was reading 137°.  I was unfortunate enough to have to work a game on it.  By Sunday, they decided to move those games to another park since kids were complaining about their shoes melting.

I've officially relocated from Milwaukee, WI to Phoenix, AZ...

... and I've already worked a game. 9AM start time, full 9 innings, 2:27 elapsed time... 106° F when we ended. Everyone was commenting on the new Northerner, and was checking on me as to if I was on the verge of heat exhaustion, delirium, or a stroke. I actually did well; my reply to them is "Wisconsin gets temperatures this high... Just not all the time."

I got reports from home that games this past week that Wisconsin was seeing the rollercoaster of between 60° and 95°, undulating hour to hour.

People here ask why I moved to Arizona, "Was it the weather?" "No,", I reply, "it's because in 2-3 weeks all baseball (of significance or we care to call) in Wisconsin dries up due to an onrushing heinous and domineering season – football."

Thank goodness.  I'm ready to put on the white hat and get at it.

Then again, I've only worked 3 baseball games since my HS sectional.  Partly due to injury and partly due to simply not wanting to.
