Bat to the head has me thinking

Doing cage work in live BP with a HS team last night, took a bat to the last (most posterior) bar on my Dyna-lite, near the top of my head. Don't know how he got me, and I was fine, but it was the first time I ever thought about about a hockey style  mask. Another 1/4 inch, I likely would have been down for the count.

Glad you're OK. Two concussions should have taught me but I held out until my TM was stolen and all I had was my HSM backup. After a season of wearing it and it's upgrade, I'm very happy with my decision to continue wearing it.

are you looking for advice on an HSM?

I was chief. Not on a particular model, but on this type situation, and whether or not a traditional mask is adequate. I'd never given it thought before because the weight of a HSM is a turn off for me. I was hit on a long and wild follow through, apparently. It's on the equipment forum because it's a equipment question.

Personally, I'd only wear an HSM (I use the Wilson Shock 2.0). First, you don't feel any pain in the more common baseball-to-the-face scenario. But for the rare hit-in-the-head situation, I'd rather have more protection than less. Considering the modest price difference between a really good mask and an HSM, I'd say it's worth it.
