Yes i would agree.. But im just telling you what the rule says..

Good point. The AR is problematic. I'm inclined to rule as in OBR until the test is graded with cites and/or the pre-season guide is  linked.

I'm having a problem with Q 17 for some reason. I'm using rule reference 8-2-F. I would have a hard time not calling R2 out if the ball hit him in the basepath and the ball had not not passed F5.

R2, 1 out. B2 hits a ground ball to the left side of the infield. The defensive team has a shift on and the shortstop is positioned in shallow right field. The third baseman is playing deep, but at his normal position. The batted ball hits R2 as he runs toward third. The ball has not passed the third baseman, but he cannot reasonably make a play on the ball.

  • a.
    • R2 is out for interference and B2 is also out for his teammate’s interference.
  • b.
    • The ball is alive and in play.
  • c.
    • R2 is out for interference and B2 is awarded first base.
  • d.
    • The ball is dead, but since no fielder could make a play on the ball, the runner is awarded third. B2 is awarded first.

I have the post from the Study Guide and the BRD that states that a momentary adjustment is legal via Paronto and the BRD.  My guess that interp also lies in a preseason guide somewhere too.

I will go with this score.

Ok, #42 pitching coach complaining about 20 second call.

9-2-c A.R. Coaches are prohibited from arguing a 20-second rule violation. A warning shall be given for the first offense and an ejection of the head coach on subsequent violations.

This looks like the answer: Issue a warning and then eject the head coach if it continues.

But, Appendix F has,

  1. Following a team warning, if a coach, student-athlete, manager or any other nonplaying personnel argues any penalty or timing procedure, they are subject to an immediate ejection.

This looks like the answer: Warn the team and if it continues, eject the pitching coach.

I would encourage the group to "Warn, then EJ the Head Coach" as stated in the rules as @Haid D' Salaami stated.

It's the only one I missed the first time around.

Yes a momentary adjustment.. but the pitcher takes his hand off the ball... which is a no no..

how much more clear does this get?

Rule 9.1.8 pg 843 "A.R. 1 When a pitcher is on the rubber with his hands together, before any natural movement that commits the pitcher to pitch, he may move his hand within his glove to adjust the ball. Should the pitcher separate his hands while in contact with the rubber, a balk shall be called. A.R. 2 A pitcher may pause during his delivery from the windup position without penalty "

The rule is clear, but the question says something like "as the pitcher is taking the rubber ..."  So, here. the momentary adjustment and removal of the hand is allowed.

It's because of a rule change (disguised as an "editorial revision") last year.  NCAA has moved AWAY from the OBR general guideline of "start with the premise that a runner is always out if hit by a batted ball, unless he could have reasonably expected the fielder right in front of him to field the ball."  Now, a runner is out when hit by a batted ball only if that action prevents a fielder from making a play (again, a general guideline, not the actual rule)

Glad to see you came to your sense on this

Yeah, when I couldnt find a person on the planet to agree with me on my issue with the word "subsequent" and the fact that I will not have a one of these in my entire season...I'm done arguing that point.

To supplement the rules that we've all read, information to help you earn the correct answer.

This thread has been extremely helpful in locating rule cites and ARs.

In regards to #44, am I reading into the question too much when it says F2 'trips' and slides into dugout... Seeing as tripping makes his slide unintentional?

You should consider the "trip" as losing body control.

Thank you to all for the great discussion! I have a thorough appreciation for the fact that answers weren't necessarily given directly and one still needed to consult references to come to their own conclusions.

I always vouch for the leaders of this group as a highly intelligent and approachable cohort. Anyone who thinks otherwise has their head up their tail.

Now if I could find out which one I missed... Ugh
