You guys should go eat lunch today at The City Butcher Shop on S. Campbell. A little expensive but it's some of the top rated BBQ in the US. Tell them you're with the clinic. I'm taking the instructors there on Friday.

Havent seen any clinic reviews. How did it go?

It was a great clinic this year. Even better than last yr. The weather ended up being perfect. And the group of guys we had this year was really great

For the classroom piece they got the chief instructor for Wendelstedt to cover the 2 man coverage and rules portion which was awesome.

He was also on the field for our drills and such. Spent Friday morning running footwork and mechanics drills, and then ran more drills while a college team scrimmaged and did some fungo.

 

Had 3-4 different chances for cage work where different instructors evaluated our plate stances and mechanics and made tweaks and suggestions.

We all got to call about 5 inning each on saturday and sunday of live baseball while we got real time correction and evaluation from instructors. They even took video which we will get to watch and critique our work.

Worth every penny and so glad I decided to go back. I picked up a lot of little things to work on to help push me to the next level and help break some bad habits.

Go, you won't regret it. you will make some good new friends and meet some great instructors who are always willing to help us more inexperienced umps.

I'd agree with the above review.  My favorite part of the whole weekend was the situational drills.  It's one thing to have good instincts and be generally in the right spot.  It's another thing to use the proper footwork to get there.  That time alone was worth the price of the clinic to me.  (Came home and worked a couple Jr. High Postseason games on monday and tuesday and got to put that footwork to use right away).  Brent, the instructor from Wendelstedt, was not only great in the classroom but also really approachable during all the field work.  In fact, I'd say that was something that really set this clinic apart from others that I have been to.  All the instructors, (mostly former minor league guys and current D1 Umpires), were incredibly relational.  If you had side questions, or wanted extra work they were more than happy to help.  They kept the "War Stories" to a minimum, in fact only used them when it applied to something we were learning at the moment.  

I heard guys who had been doing HS Varsity+ for years talk about how helpful the clinic was for them.  Just like anything, the more you put into it the more you got out of it.  Not sure which one yet, but I will be going back to a Mid-American Clinic next year...no question.  Jason Blackburn and his guys do it right!!
