Because they keep the count in their heads, they just look at the scoreboard for the count, or they check what the PU signals?

Don't confuse one's responsibility with one's job.  It's PU's responsibility to keep the game count, but it's his partners' job to help out.  Like in any of our games, a particular call may be the responsibility of one ump, but the partner should be looking and noting what happened in case he's called upon to help out.

I'm not sure what the issue is here. There was some confusion about the count so they went to replay to get the correct count. What am I missing?

That's what I asked. How do they do that? Memory, scoreboard or watch PU every odd pitch. This crew apparently did none of the above.

This crew could either stand around and discuss what they *think* the count is, or they could go to replay and get it right. Keep in mind the plate umpire had the count correct. It was the scoreboard that was incorrect to begin with. This falls under getting the call right.

So at our/my lower levels we should forego the indicator, visible or in our pockets because we can go to replay and get it right? Or do it mentally and correct our PU when he comes to us?

First, you're assuming the crew didn't know the count.

Second, we don't know what their conversation was.

Third, this post is talking about a MLB video where they have access to instant replay. They are to use replay to "get the call right". The scoreboard was incorrect. Instead of the 4 umpires getting together and trying to figure out what the correct count is, they went to replay as they would any other situation that is reviewable.

Concerning us "amateur umpires" keeping track of the count where replay isn't available...Plate umpires need to be giving the count every couple pitches. Base umpires need to be paying attention. On my crews I make sure the base umpires echo a 3-2 count when the plate umpire gives it, so everyone is on the same page. What are we doing pre-pitch? If the plate umpire gives the count, we should be repeating it in our heads. We should be anticipating things based on the count - hit and runs, steals, takes, back picks, pickoffs, balks, etc.

What do you do if the plate umpire comes to you? Get together and replay the at bat. Again, pay attention to what's going on. Umpires have to stay engaged throughout the game.
