I haven't posted to this site in awhile, not even lurking that much, but got two ejections in two separate innings last night!

14/15/16 ish level baseball tonight. 2 ejections... First - Ground ball to left side, nobody on. BR trips over F3 who is standing where every F3 stands to catch a ball from the left side. BR immediately gets up and yells VERY loudly, "Get out of the f*ing base path you f*ing p*****"

Second - 0-1 count. Foul ball down 1B line. A few feet from the fence. Really looked like it was foul to me, but of course no foul line after 1B, so I'm guessing. Kid isn't happy, I think says "No f*ing way, that's f*ing bulls*." I should have warned him, but wasn't 100% positive what he said. Next pitch is called strike three. Quite loudly, "Are you F*ING KIDDING ME!" Nope, see you too.

Second one might have been a tad quick, but whole team had a bit of a poor attitude and the inning before we had just reviewed the rule w/both head coaches about ejections that says swearing, profanity, etc is strictly prohibited. And everyone knew why the first kid was ejected. Wish I had warned kid two is my only thing I would change.

I wouldn't second guess either of those.  Children who don't behave get sent to time-out!

Nothing wrong here IMHO...  The second EJ was a good call in my mind as you weren't entirely sure what you heard the first time so you didn't act on it, but were very clear the second time he opened his mouth.

no problem here ,open mouth, insert foot leave field of play.Maybe mommy and daddy should teach them some manners. If I did this my parents would beat my butt.

In youth ball, is using profanity a instant EJ at every level?

I realize cursing at the umpire would be, but cursing at the situation as well?

Thank you.

Expletives directed towards an opposing player, so everyone's hearing it? Yup, he done. Your ballpark / league even has (or cites) a rule barring profanity? Bravo. Oh yeah, he done.

On the second one, I think you did just fine letting the first comment "fall on deaf ears". There are players who will say something like that to themselves, chiding themselves about swinging at a garbage pitch, or something like that... They say "That was funking stupid" about their swing, and we hear "You Blue are funking stupid."... So you gave him a moment to clarify it, and voilá, he did! Isn't that dandy?

Agreed with @MadMax - Especially in high school games, players will cuss themselves for a bad swing/throw/catch/whatever. Most of the time it's quiet enough you can't hear it if you're more than maybe 20' away. My rule-of-thumb is

1) anything, no matter how loud to an opponent or umpire: EJ

2) under the breath/whisper: let it go

3) loud enough to hear close-by, but not in the stands: say something to the coach between innings. I'd probably EJ if it repeats, but I've never had a repeat after the warning

4) loud enough to be heard in the stands: EJ
